Tesla is looking for a highly motivated engineer to create manufacturing equipment and processes for our cutting-edge products. In pilot team, you will build early phase products and develop new manufacturing technology. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of an incredibly exciting product.Manufacturing engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will work closely with Design Engineering, NPI (New Product Introduction), Quality and Production to take design in initial concept through prototype development and into full production.
* Develop manufacturing technology from concept to production
* Create process sequence, and establish critical process parameters and process recipe
* Lead in-house development of novel and complex prototype manufacturing equipment
* Manage internal/external equipment suppliers to design production equipment
* Define, coordinate, perform and document engineering testing reports
* Validate and characterize new equipment and process for production implementation
* Problem identification and troubleshooting a variety of difficult mechanical/electrical/software/control/data/algorithm problems
* Calculate equipment capacity and line balancing
* Train production counterparts to sustain the equipment to run at rate
* Proficiency in CAD (Catia preferred)
* Proficient in complex electro-mechanical system design, GD&Ts from concept to detailing
* Proficiency creating detailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication techniques (CNC/manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming)
* Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, adhesive bonding, fastener selection)
* Proficient in process characterization and validation using statistical tools (JMP or Minitab)
* Mindset to apply first principles for problem solving
* Knowledge in design for manufacturability
* Experience transitioning products from prototype to production
* Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
* Bachelors degree in mechanical enigneering or equivalent
