Primary Function:
Make single cavity, multi-cavity, and semiautomatic dies and perform fitting of die cavities into die shoes.

Tools and Equipment:
Bridgeport mills, drill press, band saw, various measuring instruments, indicators, height gauges, fixtures,
gas and electric furnaces, grinding equipment, CNC machining center, various machine tools, etc.

Material:
Aluminum, base plates and cylinders, ladles, bar stock, dies, die shoes, ejection systems, etc.

Direction of Others:
May be required to give guidance and instruction to the Mold Maker, Tool Maker and / or the Tool Room

Under the guidance and direction of the tool & die department lead person and the Manufacturing
Engineering department personnel, the Mold Maker
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF
OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT.
1 Shall adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card.
2 Shall receive daily work assignments from the department lead person or the Manufacturing
Engineering department personnel.
3 Shall setup the drill press and milling machines, program the CNC machine, make necessary repairs
to jigs and fixures from routine sketches, drawings, and CAD files.
4 Shall be capable of creating part or mold drawings with the ability to design and build new molds or tools
using SolidWorks, MasterCam or equivalent CAD or CAM software.
5 Make die repairs expeditiously limiting die downtime, including eliminating scratches in die cavities
using riffle files without removing the die from the injection machine; replace core pins or other
damaged die parts. Adjust or clean ejection systems, replacing worn of damaged parts; Remove
severely damaged dies from the injection machine, and assessing, making, and inserting the
necessary plugs into the dies.
6 Shall maintain all necessary vouchers, records, files, and logs, where accuracy is paramount.
7 Shall make inspection setups for jigs and fixtures for simple castings where locating points are
involved, inspecting work for accuracy when complete.
8 Attend hazardous material / waste handling classes within ten days of starting work, and a
refresher class no less than yearly there after.
9 Perform final fitting of interchangeable die cavities into master multi-cavity shoe.
10 Make automatic dies, including ejection systems for wax pattern removal.
11 Harden wear plates or other parts where detailed instructions are not provided.
12 Repair wax injection systems up to the point of final fitting with the die cavity.
13 Work from basic die layout to make multi-cavity die shoes.
14 Purchase all necessary tools as may be required to satisfy the requirements of the job.
15 Repair damaged die shoes including final fitting of cam operated sections of the die.
16 Attend and successfully complete lockout / tagout training.
17 Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
18 Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
Machine shop working conditions, where hot chips, band saw blades, and other machinery require
diligence and care.

Special Skills Required:
Requires 6-8 years experience as a Tool Maker A, Labor Grade 3, or the equivalent experience and
or / vocational training.
