Job Summary:


Manages/Supervises daily pharmacy operations for Exceptional Hospital in Arizona market.


Essential Functions:

 

  • Working as a staff pharmacist is an essential job function.  Must be able to perform all staff and clinical pharmacist functions and duties. Due to continuously changing patient census/activity, Pharmacist in Charge must have the flexibility to work a varying schedule should the need arise, which may require working extra shift and/or shift durations that exceed the assigned status for shift length and/or hours per week.
  • Review and verify CPOE pharmacy orders in queue for safety and accuracy. Optimize pharmacy workflow to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Consults with and advises medical, nursing, and other healthcare providers regarding the prescribing, dispensing, or administration of pharmaceuticals.
  • Routinely monitors the patient’s total drug therapy for effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, toxicities, drug interactions, and incompatibilities.
  • Assists Pharmacy Director with the maintenance of pharmacist competencies, training and educating the staff. Makes recommendations for workflow changes that increase the effectiveness and efficiency of pharmacy services. 
  • Evaluates and maintains electronic pharmacy systems with addition of new drugs and system updates. Maintains hospital formulary by working collaboratively with Pharmacy Director, other clinicians, and IT personnel. Participates in functional testing before and after system upgrades and improvements.
  • Participates in quality projects and assigned committees to provide expertise on using the clinical information system to achieve department and hospital goals. Involved in investigating risk management reports and identifying process improvement opportunities around Medication Safety.
  • Focus on patient experience and patient throughput metrics.  Assist Pharmacy Director with ensuring system-wide development, implementation, and reporting of consistent clinical and operational metrics.
  • Assists Pharmacy Director in supporting development and implementation of clinical and patient service programs that meet patient needs, regulatory requirements and patient satisfaction requirements.
  • Optimize inventory processes and meet budgetary expense benchmarks.
  • Monitor daily pharmacy operations and identify, resolve, or escalate any high-risk issues.  Assist Pharmacy Director with improving facility operations through proactive identification and improvement of operational opportunities. 
  • Assure regulatory requirements are being enforced and maintained.  Assists Pharmacy Director with Joint Commissions and Arizona State Board of Pharmacy surveys.
  • Participates actively in cardiopulmonary emergencies.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within the department and other departments.
  • The interpersonal skills necessary to lead technicians and interns; to instruct patients, the public, and hospital employees; and to consult with physicians.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD

Current Arizona Pharmacist License in good standing


Preferred:

Two years hospital experience

Strong clinical pharmacy skills

Previous experience with hospital pharmacy computer systems
