Animal Study Technician II

Seeking an Animal Study Technician II in Gaithersburg, MD.

Corporate Responsibilities:

• Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Adherence to applicable company policies and guidelines
• Adherence to federal and/or local regulations as applicable

Essential Position Responsibilities:

• Reviews study protocol and ensures study tasks and data for pre-clinical research studies are conducted in accordance with established protocols, SOPs, GLPs, and other pertinent regulatory requirements.
• Generates study forms and worksheets.
• Performs various technical procedures including dose administration, sample collection, handling and restraint in at least 2 species.
• Record observations and collect other relevant data via data capture systems and/or hand-generated forms in accordance with GLPs, SOPs, and protocol.
• Performs observations on animals and records observations.
• Serve as head technician for multiple studies. Performs protocol review in preparation for and attends PI meetings.
• Ability to multi-task and participate in multiple pre-clinical research studies concurrently.
• Plans assigned workload on a daily basis and effectively schedule multiple assignments.
• Ability to produce high quality data while working under the pressure of strict deadlines.
• Recognizes deviations, determines course of action, including notifying supervisor, and documents appropriately.
• Able to review own data and identify potential problems.

Additional Position Responsibilities

• Identifies process improvements and may write SOPs.
• May aid in the training/mentoring of less experienced technicians.
• Works safely with potentially hazardous substances including potential/known teratogens, carcinogens and/or radiolabeled test materials.
• Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere and work independently when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Prepares for ALAT certification.

• B.S. or B.A. degree in Biology, Life sciences, Chemistry or Science field, or High School diploma/equivalent and 12 months appropriate laboratory experience, preferred. Additional experience may substitute for lack of High School diploma. College level courses may substitute for up to 6 months experience.
• Proficiency at a level commensurate to Animal Study Technician I. Historically, most individuals require at least 9 months experience at Animal Study Technician I level to gain the knowledge and experience necessary for proficiency.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications such as email, MS Word and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.

Additional Requirements

• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Overtime, weekend and holiday work as required.
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Demonstrated immunological tolerance to animals.
• Work requires passing pulmonary function test, annual physical and the use of other PPE (personal protective equipment)

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
