United Help Ukraine (UHU) is committed to providing humanitarian, medical and other assistance to the people of Ukraine affected by the Russian invasion.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The organization is seeking a full-time Director, Development and Fundraising to oversee development/fundraising and grants management. The Director will develop and implement a strategic plan for communicating UHUs mission in a way that is compelling and designed to sustain and grow financial and other support for United Help Ukraine.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Helps analyze UHUs funding needs, designing, and implementing strategies to cultivate new sources of revenue in support of emerging opportunities
  • Researches potential sources of, and applies for, grants and public funding
  • Writes grants, research foundations, and corporations and oversees or implements fundraising strategies to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization
  • Recommends annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals
  • Maintains a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of annual and major gifts from individual, corporate, government and foundation sources
  • Maintains or further develops existing funders and secures new funders; cultivates and directly solicits key donors, working with the Executive Director and other Board Members, as appropriate
  • Directs a comprehensive fundraising program, including donor cultivation and solicitation, annual appeals, grants, planned giving, and fundraising events
  • Maintains a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals
  • Ensures that all donors are appropriately thanked and receive regular communication by making donor stewardship a priority throughout the organization
  • Develops and maintains close working relationships with the philanthropic community, individual and corporate donors, sponsors, board members, and volunteers
  • Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous, current, and future donors as well as the public.
  • Develops and implements a strategic approach for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors and donor prospects
  • Oversees the fundraising process and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
  • Plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization.
  • Analyzes and interprets donor prospect information
  • Designs and implements annual and long-range strategy for securing gifts from a variety of sources,
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Delegates specific assignments to lower-level program staff
  • Oversees the financial development office and staff
  • Assigns, plans, and oversees the work of departmental staff
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Handles employee relations matters as needed and in accordance with company policy
QUALIFICATIONS

Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to work in a fast-paced and complex environment with sharp attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good judgment and the ability to work independently and reliably and meet deadlines with a minimum amount of supervision
  • Advanced written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of tax planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to interact and develop relationships with a diverse group of people in a collaborative and professional manner
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree, advanced degree preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising
  • Five years of experience in fundraising and donor development for a nonprofit organization.
  • Fundraising experience via proposal writing
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local government grant-making practices.
