Elev8 Commitment to Liberation and Equity: Elev8 Baltimore works to create liberating opportunities for youth and communities that have been oppressed by white supremacist structures and systems. We build committed partnerships with other organizations to provide training and tools for youth to advocate for themselves and bring equity to their communities.

Academic Tutors are needed for multiple school sites during the school day.

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Non-Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Manager of Extended Learning Programs

POSITION SUMMARY: School-day Academic Tutors are responsible for providing students with small group and/or individualized instruction to help scholars learn new concepts and complete assignments. Duties include studying lesson plans, providing instructional support for students, and answering a students questions about a topic. Will be trained in Zearn, Imagine Math, and i-Ready.

Partner schools for tutoring include:
  • Abbottston Elementary School
  • Collington Square Elem/Mid School
  • Thomas Jefferson Elem/Mid School
  • Wildwood Elem/Mid School
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate individual and/or small group sessions with students in-person.
  • Complete required documentation, including attendance rosters.
  • Participates in the organizations continuing learning, including on issues of racial equity and equity in general.
  • Attend professional development to learn and facilitate school-based academic platforms such as Zearn, i-Ready, Imagine Math and any others.
  • Organize and collect data from student results.
  • Maintain and manage scheduled tutoring sessions.
  • Be available between 2-5 days a week and 2-4 hrs per day.
  • Be able to tutor elementary school students.
  • Be professional and on-time.
  • Professional writing skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Word, Teams, and Excel.
COMMUNICATION AND DOCUMENTATION
  • Establish and maintain communication with members of the school staff about student progress and aspects of the programs.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all required documentation including, but not limited to, enrollment forms, case notes, daily attendance, formative and summative assessments, participant surveys, student snap shots, etc. in alignment with grant and organizational standards.
  • Provide verbal and written reports to the Manager of Extended Learning
Agency/Team Cohesion
  • Responsible for facilitating and attending mandatory departmental meetings.
  • Attend agency meetings and events.
  • Complete required training on time.
  • Maintain compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Prepare for and attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor.
  • Uphold organizational values related to race, equity, and liberation of people and communities of color.
Other Duties as Assigned: There may be additional project management duties should the aforementioned activities take less than 25 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently enrolled college students, college graduates, former teachers, and recent high school graduates are all encouraged to apply. All will be considered and not limited to those listed above.
  • Must have a commitment to working with students from a strength base perspective

  • Model a mature and professional demeanor
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to the ethics of good character, humility, and servant leadership
  • Authorization for background check for criminal and child protective findings.

Compensation:
$18.50/hr averaging between 10-20 hrs per week.
