Position: Software Engineer (Elasticsearch)

Location: McLean, VA

Security Clearance required: TS SCI w/Poly

Duties & Responsibilities

The Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining Elasticsearch clusters. They will also provide support to the development teams working with that ecosystem. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who enjoys building platforms and has extensive experience in creating scalable data platforms. They should also have experience in business intelligence, analytics, data science, and developing data products. It is important for the candidate to have hands-on technical expertise in a range of configuration management and big data technologies. They should have a proven ability to create robust and scalable solutions that can handle large data sets. Moreover, this person should exhibit a strong passion for continuous improvement and innovation.


Required Skills

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience
  2. Three (3) - Eight (8) years of related Elasticsearch experience

Desired skills/experience

  1. Hands-on experience working with large SQL or NOSQL database clusters such as Elasticsearch, Greenplum, etc…
  2. Experience with designing data models, architecting data systems and standing up or supporting large data platforms.
  3. Familiarity with ETL pipelines and how to interface with data stores, and API endpoints.
  4. Experience troubleshooting Elasticsearch cluster and query performance issues to include working on query optimization with developers and tracking down slow logs.
  5. DevOps experience building and deploying cloud and on premise infrastructures with technologies like ansible, chef, puppet, etc…
  6. Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
  7. Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  9. We’re looking for someone with 3-5 years of experience and is familiar with the following software/tools:
    • Experience with Elasticsearch and related technologies.
    • Experience with infrastructure automation technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, etc…
    • Experience with build automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins, etc…
    • Experience with modern programming languages like Java, Python, etc.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Support Elasticsearch and/or Elastic Cloud for Kubernetes (ECK) clusters.
  2. Analyze, design and develop a processing platform using various configuration management technologies.
  3. Design and develop a processing platform using various configuration management technologies.
  4. Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
  5. Collaborate cross-functionally with developers, project managers and other engineers
  6. Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support for software systems and application issues.
  7. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  8. Work alongside other engineers on the team to sustain and advance our organization’s capabilities
