The Senior Cybersecurity Specialist is responsible for overseeing and strengthening the security of information systems and networks. This role typically involves the development, implementation, and management of cybersecurity policies and procedures to protect sensitive data and infrastructure from cyber threats. The specialist conducts regular security assessments and audits, manages risk analysis and mitigation strategies, and ensures compliance with relevant DoD and federal cybersecurity standards and regulations. Collaborates with other IT and security professionals to identify vulnerabilities, respond to security incidents, and provide expert guidance on cybersecurity best practices. Additionally, the Senior Cybersecurity Specialist stays abreast of emerging cyber threats and technologies, providing training and awareness to other DoD personnel to enhance the overall security posture of the department.

Requires Security Clearance: TS/SCI position. Personnel must possess a final DoD-granted TS with SCI eligibility.

Education: High School diploma/GED

Certification: CSSP and/or CASP, HBSS, ACAS

Experience: This labor category covers a range of capabilities. The key personnel category needs to ensure continued support of Information Assurance duties in support of NRL IT Services.

  • Minimum relevant experience of fifteen (15) years.
  • A minimum of eight years of directly related experience in the planning and execution of cybersecurity activities such as the implementation and sustainment of Host Based Security System (HBSS) software, Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE), Microsoft Defender for Identity (MDI), and implementation and application of Standard Implementation Guide (STIG) checklists in support of Navy Risk Management Framework (RMF) accreditations.
    1. This experience must have been performed within the last eight years.
    2. Demonstrated experience with the Navy RMF process and procedures and direct experience supporting a Navy Command Cyber Readiness Inspection (CCRI)
  • Experienced in analyzing risk and proposing alternatives and remediation methods to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in the planning and implementation of Splunk logging tool to include installation, configuration, tuning and monitoring.
  • Experience in managing a team of contractor personnel responsible for accreditation and authorization of computer systems under Navy/DoD guidelines.
