Reporting to the Automation Leader the Plant Automation Technician is an individual contributor who is responsible for problem solving and troubleshooting automation equipment. Emphasis on knowledge of PLC programming, HMI (Human Machine Interface), Allen Bradley PLC, including robotics and controls programming. Working closely with Quality Control, IT, and Production Departments, the incumbant will be responsible for coordinating all production assembly equipment repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a resource in the disciplines of automation controls for production line, utilities support, building automation and process equipment.
  • Assist in automation and controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up testing.
  • Assist in review of panel design and layout, bill of materials, and wiring schematic.
  • Conduct Failure Investigations and implement solutions (corrective and preventive actions) to solve automation-related issues.
  • Develop and update of Engineering documentation including URS (User Requirements Specification), FS (Functional Specification), HDS (Hardware Design Specification and SDS (Software Design Specification).
  • Able to update Engineering Drawings, such as Electrical Diagrams, Ethernet Architecture, P&ID, etc.
  • Write-up of Commissioning and Qualification protocols and reports.
  • Experience with Equipment Computer System Validation (CSV) Testing.
  • Develop and execute test plans to challenge the equipment functionality and summarize test results in report.
  • Able to manage small to medium engineering projects consisting of various contractors and consultants with little direction in cross-functional teams to implement change and improve on existing processes.
  • Develop project plans, manage project budget, plan and schedule project timelines, track project deliverable, monitor project progress and develop status report.
  • Assure that all the project elements are compliant with applicable safety, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • Compliance with all rules & policies regarding health safety, occupational safety, environmental safety, food safety, legal regulations, company requirements, etc.
  • Compliance with the Company's Integrated Management Systems which includes, but is not limited to Production, Quality, Food Safety & GMP.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, or related fields-required
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience working within food/beverage manufacturing an asset with strong knowledge if implementing, troubleshooting automation equipment including robotics and controls programming
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Excel at an expert level
  • Must have a very strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail
