Odd Fellows Assisted Living is looking for an experienced caregiver to join our team in the Overnight lead caregiver position. In this job, you will provide support to the caregivers, but you will also have the opportunity to dabble in activities, social services, nursing, and administration. While working 12-hour shifts, and never being scheduled for more than 3 days in a row, you will be able to be an integral part of the assisted living team and get to know a diverse group of people. Communication will be a vital part of this job - both communicating concerns and issues with administration, as well as kind and compassionate communication with the caregivers as you support them in their roles. This job will be centered around service, and the right fit for the position will be someone who is able to be flexible, caring, and put the residents first. This position will allow you to develop relationships with the residents of our assisted living while allowing you to grow in your caregiving career and gaining valuable leadership experience, backed by a team of caring and professional administrators and nurses.

Base hourly wage is $19.00 -$22.00 Depending on experience Possible shift Differential

Position Purpose

Provides oversight and assistance to caregivers during their shifts. Oversees scheduled cares and services and ensures adherence. Provides assistance with ADL and medication services to residents living in the ALF.

Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements include the following:

Home Care Aide certification.

At least two years of caregiving experience in long-term care.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Current CPR/BLS certification.

Full-time employment status.

Meets initial leadership and continuing education leadership training requirements.

Must have no disciplinary action in effect against certification.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Provides supportive services to nurse(s), RCM, ALF Director, and caregivers as needed and performs duties as assigned.

Oversee shower schedule, laundry schedule, refrigerator cleaning schedule, assistive devices cleaning schedule, and vital signs schedule to ensure daily adherence and documentation.

Assists caregivers with care, med pass, and daily tasks to ensure completion and quality.

Assign additional tasks and distribute work to ensure equitable distribution of tasks for each floor and caregiver.

Responsible for carrying the nurse phone and keys when the nurse is on lunch, away from the building, or in emergency situations if additional support is needed.

Assists residents with or performs activities of daily living for residents in accordance with care plans and established policies and procedures.

Provides routine stand-by assistance for resident transfers.

Assists as needed in the dining room for serving, delivering trays to rooms due to resident illness or temporary change of condition, and providing feeding assistance in emergency or hospice situations.

Delivers nutritional supplements to residents at assigned times and provides assistance as necessary to ensure intake.

Assists with weighing residents according to facility policy, and records weight in designated locations. Reports weight changes to nurse and supervisor.

Oversees the obtaining and documenting of resident vitals monthly according to ALF standards and nursing instructions.

Assists with tracking the condition of the resident’s skin. Reports any presence of pressure areas, skin breakdown or skin tears to nurse and supervisor.

Assists nursing staff in carrying out toileting program activities.

Charts in electronic medical record daily to indicate that the specified task was done. Documents the progress of each resident as directed by supervisor.

Keeps nurse and supervisor informed of factors that interfere with being able to perform the work as assigned (i.e. resident refusal, reassigned to nursing unit).

Reports changes in a resident’s condition to the resident’s nurse and supervisor.

Responsible for regularly checking the schedule and reporting to shifts as assigned. Works with the administrator to coordinate scheduling changes and time off.

Has knowledge of the activities department and is responsible for setting up basic activities (such as playing movies and setting up card games) in the absence of the activities director.

Attends weekly care conferences with ALF administration to coordinate care and contribute to care plans and resident care updates.

Participates in care plan creation and updates as requested/needed.

Treats all residents with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents’ rights.

Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.

Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves.

Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.

Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches of confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or compliance officer.

Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.

Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.

Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.

Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.

Follows established infection control policies and procedures.

As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

Attend weekly care plan meetings if requested.

Attend safety committee meetings if requested.

Participate in QAPI or facility assessment activities as needed, such as carrying out duties assigned as part of a performance improvement committee.

Use proper lifting and body mechanics while delivering care to residents.
