Manager of Partner AccountingCooley is seeking a Manager of Partner Accounting to join the Accounting and Finance team.

Position summary: The Manager of Partner Accounting is responsible for maintaining partners' capital accounts and coordinating with the Payroll Department on partners' payroll. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Maintain partners' capital accounts, including but not limited to, monitoring capital contributions, return of capital, and partner expenses
  • Create, maintain, and reconcile G/L accounts against schedules (e.g., retirement plan payments, return of capital, tax reserves, etc.)
  • Coordinate with the HR department for partners' insurance premiums, including reviewing and reconciling partners' GL accounts for accuracy and proper posting
  • Compile compensation data for actuarial purposes, monitor contribution election changes, reconcile payroll register to master files and prepare monthly retirement deductions for payroll
  • Monitor and calendar partner compensation, special payments and allowances, capital requirements, and etc
  • Prepare and post journal entries to support month-end and year-end closing process
  • Coordinate with the payroll department on the monthly payroll process for partners. This includes preparing schedules for the payroll department and preparing payroll journal entries
  • Prepare partner employment verification letters and provide information to approved third parties
  • Work closely with the Administrative & Legal Practice Partner on various projects and requests
  • Assist in the annual financial statement/retirement plan audits and tax return process, which includes preparing documents and addressing inquiries
  • Manage firm-held investments in conjunction with the Staff Accountant. Includes processing investment documents and payments and coordinating with the attorneys in the execution of documents and sales

Where applicable (e.g., if role has direct reports in the future):

  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • High degree of proficiency with Excel
  • 5+ years of accounting-related experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • CPA designation
  • Previous law firm or equity partner/shareholder accounting experience
  • Elite 3E experience
  • Supervisory experience

The expected annual pay range for this position is $110,000 - $155,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
