DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: Within the Boston Red Sox Nutrition Department, the focus is fortifying player health, enhancing recovery, and optimizing performance. Our team aims to provide the best available quality, quantity and variety for our meals, snacks, and supplements, ensuring peak physical and mental condition. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Clubhouse Culinary Nutrition Assistant is a fluid and dynamic role that reflects the mission of the performance kitchen in Fenway Park. This position requires both demonstrated skill in culinary execution and interest in performance nutrition, including but is not limited to helping fuel the team’s nutritional needs, working in a high performing kitchen, and keeping a detailed, stocked, and immaculately clean dining area. The position will involve working both the front-facing athlete fueling/snack area as well as assisting the chefs in the main kitchen area. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, high attention to detail, be intentional about their growth, listen and apply constructive feedback from supervisors, be self-motivated, and put the team first. Interest and skill in all parts of a culinary operation is desired. This position begins March 15 and will continue through the MLB regular season that concludes October 1, and will continue work through the postseason as necessary. Applicants who need to start after March 15 will be considered on a case-by-case basis. RESPONSIBILITIES Set up, maintenance, and breakdown of front-facing player’s clubhouse dining space, including cold line and salad station, recovery snack station, and beverage area. Responsible for daily made-to-order cold items such as acai bowls, recovery shakes and associated prep/production Assist Chefs in general prep of hot meal service within the main kitchen Interact with players with a positive attitude, customizing items as needed for individual players Responsible for the daily thorough cleaning and proper storage of cookware, dishes, utensils, cooking equipment, kitchen and dining area Responsible for weekly inventory management, ordering, receiving and proper stocking/display of all inventories etc. Adhere to HACCP, organization, and sanitation standards Keep a professional and appropriate relationship with staff and players, performing all position duties and responsibilities in accordance with Boston Red Sox company standards of practice. CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS At least 2 years of legitimate restaurant experience (provide references) Culinary School not required but helpful. Associate degree in Nutrition, Culinary Nutrition not required but helpful. Solid knife skills and a basic foundation of cooking through high pressure repetitive restaurant experiences. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills. Collaborative attitude with an emphasis on excellent customer service. Discreet, ethical and committed to maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. Comfortable working extended hours for multiple meal services (12+ hours), including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays to coincide with the MLB Regular Season & Postseason home schedule at Fenway Park. Knowledge of food safety and infection control procedures, as well as safe food preparation required with a valid Food Handler’s Card/ServSafe Certification.
