5th Grade Teacher (FT) 2024-25 School Year: Candidates should have a minimum of two years' experience, preferably in a formal elementary school setting. Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Candidates must demonstrate an enduring love of youth, a love of teaching and learning, and a desire to work in a faith-based atmosphere aligned with values taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong communication and classroom management skills, high energy, experience in preparing and delivering daily lesson plans, experience establishing and communicating clear learning objectives, ability to use various pedagogical methods, and willingness to learn. Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor. They should also be willing and able to uphold and serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement on and off campus. Position available for the 2024-25 school year.

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

    • high, warm, consistent energy so that students can tell the teacher loves them and the subject matter
    • broad knowledge and deep intelligence about the subject matter taught so that students become interested in the details and relevance of each subject; students will draw deeply on the teacher as a source of inspiration, wisdom, and relevance
    • ability to distill knowledge into concepts and principles-statements of truth that can readily be applied to a wide variety of circumstances
    • strong oral skills, including the ability to present information in an engaging, way with pacing that moves quickly and doesn't drag
    • strong written communication skills, including the ability to create and post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics
    • strong classroom management skills, including the ability to stay organized and implement routines that are purposeful and effective
    • a habit of communicating with employees and parents in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, helpful, and positive
    • experience in preparing and facilitating daily lesson plans
    • experience in establishing and communicating clear learning objectives to students and parents
    • ability to use a variety of pedagogical methods that engage students in active reasoning and relating
    • experience monitoring and reporting progress to parents
    • Special education training (in teaching students with specific learning disabilities) is helpful but not required
