Middle School Special Educator

Summary

Kairos Middle School is looking for a talented and committed special educator to serve our exceptional learners using data-driven, high leverage practices. Kairos special educators work both as intervention specialists and case managers and are committed to providing students with a full continuum of services within an inclusive school.  

Kairos special educators work closely with school leadership, the general education teams, and other Special Education service providers within multidisciplinary teams to plan and implement educational programming for students that is both individualized & rigorous.

To achieve these outcomes, Kairos special educators engage in student progress monitoring and goal setting; case management and compliance; parent and stakeholder engagement; as well as lesson planning & the delivery of effective teaching practices for all students.

Above all else, the ideal Kairos special educator believes in the success and growth of every student, finds joy and purpose in supporting children with disabilities, and understands that compliance and collaborative family engagement drives the effectiveness of any service that we may provide. Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Develop specially designed instruction and interventions based on student goals and needs. 
  • Employ a variety of high leverage practices and instructional strategies for special education.
  • Provide positive, constructive feedback on student performance regularly.
  • Create an environment that is appropriate to the individualized needs of their students with individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Regularly monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments. 
  • Collaborate with general educators around differentiation and modification of instruction.
  • Manage and support paraeducator and adult assistance as needed per student.

Compliance

  • Coordinate services for the students on their IEP caseload.
  • Acts as a member of a team to screen, evaluate disabilities, and submit written assessment results. 
  • Can analyze and communicate their student’s progress and data to stakeholders.
  • Prepares, facilitates, documents, and maintains complete IEP records in compliance with district policy and federal and state law. 
  • Holds, facilitates, and documents IEP meetings with stakeholders in compliance with district policy and federal and state law.

Technology Skills 

Competence in Microsoft Office applications and ability to use a variety of computer applications and platforms. Ability to use basic office equipment. Knowledge and experience in using a computer-based student Information Management system.

Safety Duties & Responsibilities 

Every employee of the school has an obligation to know our safety rules and procedures; to teach what they know to others; to recognize unsafe actions and situations; to warn others of unsafe situations; to react to emergency situations and to report hazardous or unsafe practices to those in a position to correct them.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Special Education Required
  • Valid Missouri Teacher Certification in Special Education, Required
  • 2+ years of teaching experience with students with disabilities Preferred.
  • Proficient understanding of state and federal requirements for support of students with disabilities (IEPs, 504, etc) and English Language Learners
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday 7:30am- 4:00pm 
    • Some weekends and evenings will be required.
    • Ability to commute/relocate: Saint Louis, MO 63118: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required). Please note, this is not a remote position. All Kairos teachers are required to deliver in-person instruction onsite, in our school in St. Louis.
