Job Summary

The Maintenance Service Mechanic is responsible for safely conducting sales and service to multiple food processing industry customers in the region. This position must be self-sufficient and manage its own schedule dependent upon customer needs. While very hands-on with service, repairs, and rebuilds; this role also involves a sales and customer service element. The majority of duties/functions will be performed on-site at customer facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Follow proper safety procedures and safeguard others’ safety at all times
  • Maintain his or her assigned area or normal working area so that it is clean and orderly
  • Teach other Atlas personnel and in every way assist and train them to improve their skills
  • Represent the Company in a professional and respectable manner
  • Manage and maintain food processing systems/equipment ensuring total customer satisfaction (quality, productivity, service) as well as achievement of organizational and departmental goals and objectives to include support of sales initiatives
  • Provide direct support and subject matter expertise to customers for processing equipment ensuring full satisfaction regarding equipment performance and service
  • Perform repairs, overhauls, and preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment
  • Effectively and efficiently troubleshoot equipment problems to reduce productivity losses
  • Maintains spare parts consignment inventory to support regional customers
  • Provide guidance and training to customer personnel to successfully operate, maintain, and overhaul equipment
  • Generate revenue opportunities through machine sales, parts sales, and service
  • Document and report machine performance, corrective actions, maintenance activities, and parts utilization
  • Ensure the highest possible up-time performance and unplanned downtime by effectively troubleshooting performance issues, continuous overhaul, and maintenance of subassemblies
  • Recommend or implement improvements to equipment, parts, processing, preventative and predictive maintenance program, etc. to reduce or eliminate repeated issues, increase mean time between failures (if not able to be eliminated), expand field life and effectiveness of parts, reduce repair time, etc.
  • Assess the fruit (read fruit) coming off the Atlas machines and make the necessary adjustments on equipment, etc. ensuring the highest yield, quality, and effectiveness of equipment
  • Ensure Customer Manuals are consistently up-to-date by providing a copy of the bulletin to the Customer
  • Effectively communicate customer corrective actions required to improve machine performance
  • Consistently and accurately follow standard operating procedures, policies, etc.
  • Expected regular regional travel around 50% of the time
  • Self-directed in managing own schedule, work, and deadlines
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Qualifications

  • Safety mindset
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills on complex equipment and processes.
  • Advanced mechanical skills and experience (bearings, bushing, chains, belts, hoses, pumps, seals, motors, etc.)
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Intermediate electrical skills and experience (sensors, PLCs, circuits, etc.)
  • Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills with the ability to write formulas
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Suite and JDEdwards E1 (preferred)
  • Team player
  • Must keep a valid US driver’s license
  • Must have, or be able to obtain a passport
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume with the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Capable of lifting 25 pounds
  • Capable of climbing, bending, squatting, and reaching above shoulder height
  • Capable of working in a typical manufacturing environment (hot, cold, humid, loud, wet), willing to follow customer dress codes and GMPs
  • Capable of and willing to travel domestically and internationally 50% of the time
  • Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
