Capital Area Pediatrics offers accessible, comprehensive pediatric care to families at five practice locations throughout Northern Virginia. For both sickness and health, generations of families have chosen Capital Area Pediatrics to provide outstanding care and an exceptional patient experience. We are accepting applications from Registered Nurses interested in PT, PT, or PRN opportunities.

The Registered Nurse is a hybrid position that works both triage as well as at site location directly with patients. The RN will work closely with the care team as well as our Director of Clinical Operations and will ensure that the patient receives the highest quality of care in a timely manner. The RN would also serve in a mentorship role to all clinical staff at site and beyond; experience teaching and motivating clinical team members is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patient and/or family to obtain medical histories and to make an accurate assessment.
  • Assigns a triage priority based on observations and available information.
  • Initiates diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by standing protocols.
  • Calls for crisis intervention if appropriate.
  • Communicates and acts as liaison with patients, family, and health professionals in a manner that respects confidentiality and dignity.
  • Coordinates the needs of the patient with supporting departments and assists in solving problems related to the welfare of patient and staff.
  • Charts concisely, descriptively, and legibly indicating patients progress or lack of progress.
  • Performs nursing procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Administers vaccines and tests on patients.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and adheres to CAP’s infection control protocols.
  • Demonstrates compliance with exiting standards and policies.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care.
  • Must be able to make good professional decisions quickly despite stressful atmosphere.
  • Ability to handle stressful and constantly changing conditions.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Sort and file material correctly by alphabetical and numerical systems
  • Ability to use computer and basic office equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Possession of a current unrestricted RN License in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR certification.
  • One year of triage experience in pediatric or family practice setting is preferred.
