Position Summary: plan and teach art class(es) at the Red Brick Center for the Arts


Essential Job Functions for Adult Art Classes
* Design and plan an art class(es) specific to age group and art medium designated
* Create a supply list and/or reading list appropriate for art class(es)
* Write a summary and description of the class(es)
* Create an enjoyable, engaging, and safe learning environment
* Must be able to teach to students with a range of skill levels and tailor instruction for each student
* Assist and guide students through the art making process and techniques while offering encouragement
* Maintain an organized and clean classroom and equipment
* Organize and put supplies away at end of class

Essential Job Functions for Youth Art Classes
* Design and plan an art class(es) and activities specific to age group
* Create a supply list appropriate for art class(es)
* Write a summary and description of the class(es)
* Create an enjoyable, engaging, and safe learning environment
* Assist and guide students through the art making process and techniques while offering encouragement
* Maintain an organized and clean classroom and equipment; supervise when equipment may be new to students
* Answer question and be available for parents and guardians during drop-off and pick-up times
* Communicate daily with parents and guardians about daily schedule and activities
* Set rules for students; classroom expectations should be defined on the first day
* Fill out accident reports/better behavior reports
* Count students at the beginning and end of each activity; students should never be out of field of vision when out of classroom
* Handle disciplinary issues
* If applicable, direct Arts Camp Counselor in tasks to assist you and the class
* Create a safe and fun learning environment for all students and staff
* Organize and put supplies away at end of class

Core Competencies
* Ability to communicate effectively with Director, Arts Programming Coordinator, Red Brick staff, participants, students, and parents if applicable
* Knowledge of art materials and tools necessary to instruct students in an informed class; managing student use of materials and their appropriateness for age and ability
* Knowledge and skill in the art medium that Educator is teaching
* Previous art teaching experience with the specific age group and art medium
* Engage effectively with students and parents if applicable
* Encourage students in art making process so that they produce artwork(s) by end of class
* Possess interpersonal skills including understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, and politeness to others. Relates well to different people from varied backgrounds.
* Ability to provide excellent customer relations with students, counselor and parents
* Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency
Experience: previous art education experience with specific age group, preferred but not required
License: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check and Driver's License check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon passing the background check and driver's license check.

Work Environment:
* Indoors: Art classroom environment; teaching lessons out of doors, walking to park or playground for lunch and breaks or for an art lesson. Set the rules for the outing prior to leaving the building.
* Outdoors/Off-Site: Parks, variety of City of Aspen facilities; Yellow Brick playground, John Denver Sanctuary, front yard of Red Brick Center for the Arts, Rio Grande Trail (for older students), weather permitting, being flexible for changing locations
