SUMMARY The Buildings & Grounds Laborer performs a variety of general maintenance and janitorial duties, including maintaining company buildings & grounds.

Pay range starting at $18.87/hr. Hours of this position are Monday - Friday 6am - 2pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides general maintenance for all plant buildings, including minor plumbing repairs, minor door repairs, minor roof repairs and painting.
  • Maintains grounds for outside areas of plant property
    • Collects and disposes of debris (including leaves and tree limbs) and trash
    • Cleans sand from plant roof and curbs.
    • Maintains cleanliness of stream, including removal of trash, and changing booms.
    • Ensures spouting and gutters are free from debris.
    • Ensures outfalls are open during storms.
    • Clears snow and ice for parking lots, sidewalks, entrance ways, stairways, and any other areas open to walking traffic.
    • Mows grass, using both riding and push mowers.
  • Maintains hazardous and non-hazardous materials in proper location, according to OSHA and DEP regulations and guidelines
    • Checks satellite stations for empty containers and move to storage.
    • Consolidates and label all 55 Gallon drums in barrel storage area.
    • Completes hazardous material report
    • Loads tractor trailer with used non-hazardous and hazardous waste to be disposed of every 90 days
    • Inspects and corrects all containers for proper labeling within Maintenance Shop
  • Maintains regular waste clean-up produced during normal plant operations:
    • Loads and maintains dust bins, and schedules pick-up as needed
    • Pumps chip bin pit for Machine Shop
    • Empties sawdust collector
    • Empties wood boxes in Pattern Shop
  • Provides janitorial services, including:
    • Empties and disposes of plant and office trash, and schedules dumpster pick-up
    • Distributes contents of paper recycle bins
    • Cleans spills and other hazards, following proper protocol
    • Relocates full file boxes for Front Office
    • Moves office furniture and other office-related equipment
    • Checks and sorts skids, and schedules pick-up
  • Performs preventative maintenance (PMs) on equipment, including power washer, lawn mowers, HVAC units, mobile carts, and other assigned equipment

Critical Competencies

  • Basic computer skills using MS Office and Mainsaver CMMS
  • Knowledge of forklift, skid steer, dump truck and platform lift operation
  • Ability to receive and carryout instructions
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electricity
  • Attention to Detail -careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • PA Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

Work environment

Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn in designated areas. Exposure to noise, respirable and airborne dust, chemicals, or other material. Exposure to the weather while working on outdoor projects.

Physical requirements

Lifting up to 50lbs, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing stairs, walking or standing for long periods of time, and working from heights. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
