Role and Responsibilities:
As a Mess Attendant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of our dining facility. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of custodial and food service tasks. The core duties and essential responsibilities of this position include:
  • Setting up, maintaining, replenishing, and breaking down beverage stations to provide accessible refreshments.
  • Managing the salad bar by setting up, maintaining, replenishing, and breaking down items.
  • Keeping dining tables clean and sanitized, filling dessert cases, and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Setting up the scullery by preparing dishwashing equipment and cleaning utensils and dishes.
  • Managing serving lines by setting up, replenishing, and maintaining them, as well as serving meals.
  • Mop tile and concrete floor areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas to maintain a neat appearance.
  • Dust furniture and fixtures regularly to uphold a clean environment.
  • Wash and disinfect washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers, and fixtures to ensure hygiene.
  • Clean mirrors to provide a clear and polished appearance.
  • Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed to ensure a continuous supply.
  • Empty waste baskets and garbage cans, properly disposing of waste materials.
  • Place garbage in outside storage bins for proper disposal.
  • Clean entrances and exits, including glass, doors, and hardware, to maintain a welcoming appearance.
  • Wash walls, doors, hardware, and glass to remove fingerprints and marks.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Collecting and managing recycling bins located throughout the facility.
  • Transporting recyclable materials to the recycling center for proper disposal.
  • Adhering to safety procedures and standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensuring compliance with food operation and cleanliness standards.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience in custodial or facility maintenance roles is preferred.
  • Familiarity with food service operations and basic knowledge of food handling procedures is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment is beneficial.

The Mess Attendant for Galley Operations role involves various physical and environmental demands essential for the successful execution of responsibilities and fostering a safe and efficient work environment. Candidates should be aware of and prepared for the following requirements:
