Operator Technician
Summary
Per Sé Group is seeking an Operator Technician for our client in Corpus Christi, TX, who produces and sells electricity, capacity, and ancillary services into wholesale power markets in the United States. Responsibilities
Operational Competence:
  • Competently operates and maintains a simple/combined cycle generating facility and associated equipment with minimal guidance.
  • Monitors combustion turbine, steam turbine, and electric generators for operational changes, start-up, shutdown, and emergency responses.
  • Performs routine and emergent maintenance on plant instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.

Compliance and Safety:
  • Works in compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Adheres to proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and facility policies.
  • Follows event notification and communication protocols to management and regulatory agencies.

Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintains required documentation, records, log sheets, and charts.
  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) proficiently.
  • Records equipment problems and maintenance actions on the CMMS.

Preventive Maintenance:
  • Proactively performs preventive maintenance activities on plant equipment.
  • Defines scope of work for repair and routine maintenance activities, including resource planning and contractor management.

Technical Operations:
  • Troubleshoots and repairs plant systems and equipment.
  • Proficient in operating the plant via a remote distributed control system (DCS) and locally via PLC panel interfaces.
  • Evaluates water chemistry for specific units and adjusts chemical feed systems as needed.

Training and Management:
  • Participates in the facility Training and Qualification Program (TQP).
  • Engages in Responsibility Based Management, including budget preparation and operational procedure development.
  • Works under minimal supervision, resolving most issues independently.

Housekeeping and Appearance:
  • Performs general housekeeping and contributes to continuous improvement in facility appearance.
  • Maintains cleanliness in all areas of the plant and control room.

Operational Understanding:
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of power plant operations, minor maintenance, and safety protocols.
  • Utilizes good judgment and decision-making based on operating data.
  • Resolve complex issues independently, referring only the most complex to higher levels.

Communication and Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrates competent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses knowledge of computer systems and software.
  • Reads technical manuals and drawings, with the ability to troubleshoot and inspect programmable logic controllers and distributive control systems.

Requirements and Flexibility:
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license for company business-related driving.
  • Works extended hours, varied shifts, weekends, and holidays based on schedules, workload, and plant conditions.
  • Open to learning new skills, areas and information.
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency, including solid mechanical/electrical aptitude and general knowledge of hazardous material handling.

Project Responsibilities:
  • Performs capital project and major program responsibilities as assigned by plant management.

Preferred Skills and Expertise
  • Five plus years’ power plant operations and / or maintenance experience with proven experience with plant control systems, calibrating transmitters, and control valves.
  • Must have prior experience in equipment, auxiliary and or steam operating procedures.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Certifications and / or degrees in mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, instrumentation, and controls (I&C) maintenance, water chemistry, or other related fields
  • Outage/turnaround experience a plus
