Midtown Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving Northeast Nebraska with a focus on improving access to complete care for the whole family, is looking for a Dentist to help us fulfill our mission!

Clinic hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm. No nights or weekends.

Job Summary:

The Dentist is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all dental care at Midtown Health Services. The Dentist ensures proper functioning of day-to-day operations of the dental clinic in coordination with other staff, to provide consistent quality of dental care to patients. This position provides dental services.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Provides dental services.
    1. Maintains dental expertise and competency (to include age specific competency) as well as demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary dental care.
    2. Provides dental sessions, as scheduled, in direct patient care at clinic site, including extended hours.
    3. Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers patients; prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed dental conditions.
    4. Refers clients for appropriate specialty care services, lab and x-ray and any other ancillary services that are appropriate for patient’s management and care. Reviews all lab and x-ray reports for patients under his/her care on a timely basis and makes dental management decisions appropriately. Follows appropriate standards of care for each patient.
    5. Provides continuity of care to patients.
    6. Maintains a problem-oriented dental record for each patient seen in accordance with the Center’s established Health Information Management policies and procedures.
    7. Leads the oral health care team in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing patient and family needs to develop a plan of care.
    8. Ensures that patient and family/significant others are educated about diagnosis and the plan of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.
    9. Participates in specified oral health promotion, education and/or prevention programs as needed; attends and participates in clinic meetings/departmental meetings and other clinic functions as required by the Center.
  2. Provides clinical oversight.
    1. Assumes responsibility/accountability for delegating, directing, and supervising patient care activities. Trains, mentors and supervises students and dental support staff engaged in activities and procedures, as appropriate.
    2. Participates in the analysis of community health problems and assists in the development of the community health care plan.
    3. Participates in the review and development of patient care policies, including health maintenance schedules and continuity of care.
    4. Participates in the review and development of protocols and standing orders.
    5. Implements the plans, procedures and protocols for the dental team.
    6. Serves as a resource and positive, proactive leader for the department.
    7. Accepts responsibility for remaining current with oral health care trends and information that impact the dental practice.
    8. Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards.
  3. Keeps abreast of new information and materials by reviewing clearinghouse information, newsletters, and periodicals.
  4. Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
  5. Participates in the review, development, and training of patient care policies, procedures, protocols, and standing orders.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties 1 through 5 are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. All other job duties are secondary functions.

  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to comply with all occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to address clinic’s needs.
  • Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and do appropriate follow-up.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to constructively participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Ability to actively participate in marketing and outreach activities when requested and emergency response events when required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written skills highly desired.
  • Ability to perform all functions as a Doctor of Dentistry within the practice scope of the clinic.
  • Knowledge and understanding of program requirements to maintain FQHC and PCMH status.
  • Ability to proficiently navigate the Dentrix system.

Education and Experience, Licensure and Certification:

  • Doctoral degree in dental medicine or dental surgery required.
  • Two years of job related experience preferred.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
