Job Title: Elementary School Classroom Teacher

Job Classification: Licensed Instructional

Reports to: Success Academy Boys & Girls Club Principal

Work Schedule: School Calendar / 8:00am-4:00pm


General Description:

Teach students at Success Academy Boys & Girls Club basic academic, social, and developmental skills as required by the Indiana State Standards.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students for whom you are responsible within your classroom.
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
  • Create daily lessons and prepare materials and classroom for class activities
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using teaching methods such as daily 5, daily 3 and guided reading, math and writing groups.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Assign and grade class work and homework
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
  • Collaborate with parents or guardians, teachers, social worker, and administration in order to resolve students’ behavior and academic problems
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss children’s progress and to determine their priorities for the their children and their resource needs.
  • Provide differentiated instruction, student engagement, quality pacing and rigor throughout lessons taught
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and guide students in learning from those activities
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required which may go briefly beyond the scheduled work day.
  • Perform administrative and supervisory duties
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.
  • Select, store, order, issue, inventory classroom equipment materials and supplies

School Activities

  • Elementary School Classroom Teacher is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperone student activities, provide guidance for students, participate on faculty committees, study and help resolve school problems.


Requirements:


Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and licensure in elementary education.


Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing
  • Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials
  • Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications
  • Ability to communicate assessment results, in written and oral forms, to parents and professionals
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility
