Farallon Consulting, L.L.C. has a full-time opening for an entry-level Staff Biologist in our Wenatchee, Washington office.

About us:

Farallon provides an integrated suite of environmental consulting services to a wide range of private- and public-sector clients. Specialty areas include environmental due diligence, site characterization, engineering and remediation services, aquatic and shoreline permitting, stormwater management, and mediation and litigation support. Farallon recently acquired a 15-person environmental consulting firm (formerly Grette Associates) which is now the firm’s new Natural Resources and Permitting Group.

The Natural Resources Permitting Group is an established group of biologists that have been working in the industry since 2002. Our work ranges from supporting major public port developments and sediment remediation actions to aquatic resources permitting for individual landowners. Our biologists specialize in wetlands, critical areas, habitat mitigation and restoration, construction monitoring, permit compliance, habitat surveys and shoreline permitting.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a motivated and talented Biologist to join the firm’s Natural Resources Permitting Group in our Wenatchee, Washington office. You will be collaborating with colleagues from across our organization to provide environmental solutions to our clients’ environmental challenges.

You should be a self-starter and possess strong technical and writing skills to support a wide range of environmental projects. Our ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented, have excellent verbal communication skills, and a positive attitude.

What you will be doing at Farallon:

  • Field research, study design, and data analysis
  • Technical writing and reviewing
  • Preparation of documents for environmental permits
  • Work with a range of clients, both public and private, and work within defined budgets.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Knowledge of fish and wildlife species and ecology of WA State; including Eastern WA.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a biological science, (Biology, Ecology, Fisheries, Zoology, etc.). A Fisheries degree is preferred.
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Ability to work outside in adverse conditions
  • Ability to perform efficiently and effectively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Have a personal vehicle and a valid WA driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently to complete specific tasks
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written/oral communication skills
  • The ability to work through technical issues efficiently, and be willing to ask questions

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Knowledge and experience with the Shoreline Management Act
  • Knowledge of the Growth Management Act and local county codes
  • Knowledge and experience with critical areas, compensatory mitigation and endangered species, preferably in Washington state
  • Experience using GIS
  • Experience with AutoCad
  • Familiarity with wetlands and wetland regulations
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans
  • Masters’ degree in a biological science
  • Ability to communicate well with a wide variety of clients to determine the specific project requirements
  • Ability to operate small boats
  • SCUBA experience (PADI certified a plus)
  • Knowledge of native flora
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.

Pay Range

Our best estimate of the base pay range for this position, located in the Wenatchee Area is $26 to $30.50 per hour. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. Farallon reviews and updates salary ranges annually, and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Farallon’s total compensation package for our employee-owners.
