The Opportunity

In Research & Development (R&D) our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.

Abbott Nutrition is currently seeking a Research Sensory Scientist to join our team in Columbus, OH.  The desired candidate will be well versed in sensory operations including descriptive analysis, and consumer research techniques. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage complex and strategic projects as sensory subject matter expert.
  • Support cross functional project teams by recommending testing strategies and study designs that deliver business objectives and consumer needs. 
  • Apply scientific knowledge to design, plan, and execute sensory & consumer research projects using established and innovative testing methods and processes.
  • Analyze and interpret data to form conclusions that provides actionable insights to project teams.
  • Present insights and recommendations to a range of key stakeholder levels within the organization.
  • Collaborate with R&D, global sensory, marketing and quality stakeholders as sensory subject matter expert.
  • Build and manage relationships with key vendors.
  • Lead one of five internal descriptive analysis panels held daily.
  • Assist with planning, implementation, and maintenance of sensory training programs.
  • Partner with sensory staff to ensure smooth operation of routine functions.
  • Assist with standardized practices and protocols within the sensory organization and remain abreast of industry best practices and new techniques.
  • Provide sensory guidance for quality operations.
  • Mentor junior sensory team members to ensure a high level of expertise and knowledge within team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING

Required:

  • B.S/M.S. degree in Food Science, Sensory Science, Data Analytics, or closely related field, plus 7-10 years of professional experience in sensory or consumer testing
  • Strong background designing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative consumer research
  • Experience with descriptive panel leadership, specifically Flavor Profile Methodology
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and projects in a speed oriented, rapidly changing environment
  • Effective communication skills, strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • No food allergies or dietary restrictions

Preferred

  • Proficient using Sensory and Statistical software (Compusense and XLSTAT), PowerPoint, Excel, Project BI, Word
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (domestic and international)

  • This is an Onsite role (not remote)
  • Relocation is provided.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
