Primary Responsibilities Include:
Lead Software Engineer
Nodal is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to run an established team of high-performing engineers. The Lead will:
- Be responsible for motivating, leading, and managing a team of engineers that build services for a well-defined exchange domain.
- Collaborate with Lead colleagues that run teams from other exchange and clearing domains.
- Architect distributed systems with high availability, performance, scalability, and security in mind. Ensure solutions are testable and maintainable, while being easy to operate and support. As a Lead, you will have significant autonomy to achieve these goals.
- Review code developed by the engineers on the team and provide feedback to ensure adherence to best practices (e.g., style guidelines, accuracy, testability, and efficiency)
- Mentor and grow the careers of the team members, from hiring through performance management and reviews. Continually coach and develop the talent and skill set of the engineers.
- Nodal has a hybrid work culture, and we are looking for a Lead that thrives in an environment that values in-office team interactions.
- Run the team’s after-hours on-call rotation, and take on-call shifts. Lead incident reviews to identify and implement prevention ideas that ultimately reduce the number of incidents.
- Run the team’s agile processes, including capacity management and long term planning
Requirements:
- 10+ years of engineering experience designing, building, deploying and operating distributed, high-volume services
- 3+ years of experience in management, leading a team of engineers of different experience levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to earn the respect of senior engineers while leading and coaching all team members. Ability to present to different audiences, addressing disparate stakeholder perspectives
- Ability to translate business ideas and requirements into technical solutions and drive large-scale efforts across multiple teams
- Strong programming skills in Java, Kotlin, and client and server-side Javascript. Solid understanding of Object Oriented Design, system design, data structures, and algorithms. Deep background with APIs and API architecture and design.
- Strong background in Linux and SQL desired.
- Experience with modern SDLC pipelines, including git and DevOps tool chains using Bamboo or Jenkins
- Experience with application security, including OWASP and DevSecOps approaches, like static code analysis
- Experience with software delivery supporting infrastructure like Docker containers
- Experience with brokering and queuing technology desired, like RabbitMQ
- Experience with Software as a Service and public clouds like AWS, Azure, or GCP desired.
