50 miles south of Chicago and close to the Indiana boarder, Manteno is a village in Kankakee County, Illinois. The population was 9,204 at the 2010 census, up from 6,414 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kankakee-Bourbonnais-Bradley Metropolitan Statistical Area.

 

Built in 1988, this owned site sits on 13+ acres, manufactures OPS, HIPS & MFPP sheet, and has approximately 110 employees working. This operation runs 24/7 and can produce 98M lbs. of sheet annually.

 

Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs and coordinates activities of the production department in manufacturing products to customer specifications. Directs and coordinates these activities through management of four production Team Leads

· By personal example, communicates and demonstrates to employees the importance of working safely on a daily basis.

· Stimulate employee interest and participation in the safety programs.

· Attends and actively participates in safety meetings, STAR Program & Safety Gemba walks.

· Instructs (directly or through subordinates) each new and/or transferred employee on the hazards of the job or task that the employee will be assigned. Properly utilizes the established safety orientation checklists and SMI’s. Ensures that employees understand and properly follow work instructions.

· Responsible for Pay for Skills progress and the training and development of Production Department operating personnel.

· Responsible for providing leadership and direction to assigned department(s), product line(s) or profit center(s) and teams in order to meet production goals, ensure a safe work environment, and meet customer specifications.

· Daily focus on employee engagement & recognition.

· Schedule, track, & monitor production and costs to ensure unit meets established goals while maintaining a safe work environment and quality standards.

· Maintain effective workforce through hiring, training, coaching and disciplinary actions.

· Implement and demonstrate best practices and consistent policies.

· Directs and coordinates the manufacture and distribution of product directly through production Team Leads.

· Participates in Tier 0, Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 meetings.

· Drive standardization & continuous improvement through the PEPS Operating System. Will be owner for PEPS Quality pillar or CI Pillar. Will support all other Pillar programs.

· Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.

· Strong analytical and people management skills

· Oral communication with all levels of employees and external contacts is necessary. Having the ability to communicate in written form by email, reports and presentations is required.

· Responds to all employees’ safety suggestions and unsafe physical conditions identified.

· Knowledgeable of all company rules and regulations and enforces them as they are applicable.

· Ensures proper investigation (during the same shift) of all incidents or near-miss incidents to determine causes and corrective action needed to prevent recurrence. Participates as a standing member of accident investigation board.

· Develop and implement safety awareness programs, communicate safety issues, correct safety related problems, and lead investigations into safety related issues.

· Complete and maintain timely and accurate reports on critical production outcomes such as efficiency, downtime, cost, etc.

· Provide feedback up and down the organization.

· Participate in designing and implementing continuous improvement processes through Kaizen events, etc.

· Participate in generation of cost savings initiatives through Level 4 & Agile A3 development.

 

 

II. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Team Leads & Direct Labor Personnel

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER SKILL REQUIREMENTS

· BA/BS degree preferred in Industrial Management, Engineering or Business.

· 5+ years of manufacturing experience including 2 years of supervisory experience.

· Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of statistical methods and process improvement techniques.

· Must demonstrate proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite.

· Effective team building and demonstrated leadership skills.

· Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with all levels in the organization.
