Overview

Seeking a Sample Management Technician for our facility in Gaithersburg, MD. This role conducts sample processing, sample storage, aids in clinical pathology, checks samples for quality, completes necessary paperwork and aids in sample storage or disposition. The right candidate will be very organized and detail-oriented with lab experience.

The pay rate for this position is $21.50-22.50/hr based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Corporate Responsibilities:

    Adherence to laboratory health and safety procedures
  • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Adherence to applicable company policies and guidelines
  • Adherence to federal and/or local regulations as applicable

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviews study protocol and ensure study tasks and data for pre-clinical research studies are conducted in accordance with established protocols, SOPs, GLPs, and other pertinent regulatory requirements.
  • Independently generates study forms and worksheets.
  • Prepares sample labels using automated and manual systems and labels cups and tubes for studies.
  • Ensures adequate inventory/supplies are stocked for sample collection.
  • Reviews sample labels and specimens to assure accuracy and quality standards.
  • Prepares blood smears.
  • Operates centrifuge for collected samples in accordance with SOP and protocol requirements and places resulting serum/plasma into appropriate storage tubes
  • Assures proper storage conditions for sample types.
  • Accessions specimens using automated and manual systems.
  • Independently and accurately processes specimens within established metrics.
  • Maintains equipment and instrumentation.
  • Notifies Study Director of sample quality issues and documents appropriately.
  • Manages multiple studies. Learns to perform protocol review in preparation for and attends PI meetings.
  • Documents activities and records observations regarding sample preparation in accordance with GLPs, SOPs, and protocol.
  • Plans assigned workload effectively for completion of multiple assignments.
  • Ability to produce high quality data while working under the pressure of strict deadlines.
  • Recognizes deviations, determines course of action, including notifying supervisor, and documents appropriately.
  • Able to review data and identify potential problems.

Other Position Responsibilities

  • May assist in shipment of samples and maintenance of inventories.
  • Identifies process improvements and may assist in generation or revision of SOPs/Forms.
  • May aid in the training/mentoring of less experienced technicians.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere, as well as independently when necessary.
  • Safely work with potentially hazardous substances including bloodborne pathogens. Practices universal safety precautions and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Overtime, weekend and holiday work as required.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated immunological tolerance to animals (if applicable to base laboratory).
  • Work requires passing pulmonary function test, annual physical and the use of other PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts or Associates with strong emphasis in life sciences experience preferred. Experience may substitute for lack of college degree.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office)

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
