The Production Manager will be a member of our Production team. Under the responsibility of the Operations Manager. The Production Manager will be responsible for directing and monitoring, on a daily basis, fabrication shop work activities, fabrication progress and resources necessary to efficiently meet the production schedule and performance metrics.
Tasks :
Direct and monitor, on a daily basis, fabrication shop work activities, fabrication progress and resources necessary to efficiently meet the production schedule and performance metrics
Review schedules in order to make decisions concerning staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints
Review operations and confer with staff to resolve production problems
Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety
Any other related duties, as required and/or special projects as needed
Responsibilities:
Responsibility for the safe operation, regulatory compliance, throughput, quality, continuous improvement, production, and cost management of plant
Strive to reduce expenses and increase productivity
Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work
Actively managing performance of personnel and processes in a manufacturing setting
Continually review with foreman their job tasks and work together to provide motivation, guidance and support
Responsible for time keeping of group
Oversee a workforce of 150+ employees
Uses the A3 and other problem-solving methods to continuously identify and improve areas of weakness or inefficiency during the fabrication process
Skill Requirements:
Excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills
Apply logic and critical reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Decisive in making logical and informed decisions
Adjusting responsibility in relation to others' actions
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop production staff members
Promotes a zero loss mindset culture and effective asset utilization
Effectively plan, organize and prioritize work duties in a fast paced environment
Ability to adapt in continuously changing work duties and environment
Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledge of codes of standards for AISC, AWS, and CWB
Knowledge of structural steel welding and fabrication processes
Knowledge of Computer systems and programs, to include Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of supervisory HR administrative functions, to include performance reviews, time-keeping, disciplinary action, record keeping and applicable employment law
Overall familiarity within each department of the organization
Thorough understanding of heavy process welding and plans interpretation
Education/Certification Requirements:
Industry certification for AWS (American Welding Society) and CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) Certifications preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical field
Reasonable Suspicion certified
Experience Requirements:
7 to 10 years of structural steel or closely related production experience
5 + years of Supervisory Experience in Heavy Structural Steel Manufacturing
Experience with Metal Core, MCAW and Flux Core, FCAW welding on heavy structural steel
Experience identifying and applying LEAN principles/Kaizan events
Experience welding and fabricating per AWS D1.1 and AISC specifications
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to perform the following activities for varying lengths of time: stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, kneel and stoop on a constant basis; must be able to climb ladders or stairs to work from elevated locations periodically. Often lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds; use hands, arms and upper body on a frequent basis. Ability to perform work in variable climate conditions such as but not limited to, hot, cold, dusty, noisy etc. May also be required to wear appropriate respiratory protection should the need arise.
