STAFF THERAPIST POSITION DESCRIPTION - Mosaic Counseling Centers of East Texas, Inc.


POSITION TITLE: Staff Therapist      REPORTS TO: Director of Client Care, Adult and Couples


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This role is for a qualified, licensed provider or provider-associate who is skilled in initial assessment/risk assessment and working with clients on a short term basis. The provider may for example, address acute issues, provide education or skill development, assist with building appropriate resources and/or refer to other appropriate levels of care. 


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Professional services, such as assessment, short term psychoeducation, or appropriate short term treatment modalities

2. Provide initial assessment, including risk assessment of onboarding clients

3. Lead groups, classes or other appropriate resources


EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Professional Services

· Providing the number of agreed upon clinical hours

· Maintaining electronic clinical records in keeping with Center policies and procedures

· Working with the administrative staff to set and collect appropriate fees

· Representing the standards and practices of their primary professional fields


Clinical Staff Participation

· Working cooperatively with staff colleagues, consultants, and referring professionals

· Actively participating in clinical staffing and case consultations

· Attending administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities


Center Administration and Development

· Participating in the development of the Center's referral network

· Performing administrative and development tasks as assigned

· Participating in the Center's programs of education, consultation, and community relations



EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's or doctor's degree in pastoral counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or equivalent

· Clinical training and experience, validated by state licensure, and advanced standing with the group(s) corresponding to their field(s), including the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC), American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), Academy of Clinical Social Workers (ACSW), American Psychological Association (APA) or a medical discipline

· Evidence of having had enough personal therapy to work freely with clients and to protect them from the therapist's own problems

· Mastery of a coherent theory and practice of therapy

· Ability to use the language and methodology of differential diagnosis and familiarity with the contributions of various diagnostic tests

· Ability to assess a client's therapeutic needs, to establish a therapeutic relationship, and to conduct, complete, terminate, and evaluate that therapy

· Ability to relate the contributions of various disciplines to the therapeutic task and to make appropriate use of inter-professional collaboration

· Ability to integrate spiritual beliefs and practices with the therapeutic process

· Ability to work effectively with religious leaders, congregations, and other community sponsors and resource persons

· Ability to help clients deal with spiritual concerns utilizing resources within their own belief system

· Understanding of the dynamics of spiritual experiences and the implications for pastoral psychotherapy

· A willingness to think theologically about the therapeutic task and the relation of therapy to the total task of spiritual communities

· Ability and willingness to develop and cultivate his/her own caseload by representing the Center in the community and relating to referral sources

· Ability to establish and maintain appropriate personal and professional relationships and boundaries both within and outside the Center


Position-Specific Demands


This position performs the majority of work indoors, with some outdoor work during special events. Job duties require the ability to remain in a stationary position between 50-80% of the time worked; the ability to traverse the office area; constantly operate office machinery such as computers, calculators, faxes and printers. Duties also require the ability to lift, push, pull or move items up to approximately 25 pounds. Occasionally, an individual in the position might find the need to kneel, stoop, crouch or traverse tight spaces. The position requires the individual to be able to communicate frequently using appropriate senses in order to detect, discern, identify, recognize, judge, observe, estimate, inspect or assess details of the work environment.


The individual in this position could be exposed to changes in climate when working outdoors; and be subject to tension, stress and difficult situations from time to time. Occasionally, the individual could be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as inks, toners, cleaning chemicals or similar. Exposure to blood/bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens is expected to be rare.
