Salary: Up to $30/hour; non-exempt

Job Summary: The Lead Field Technician for Old Dominion Heat Trace is responsible for the timely and safe completion of projects in strict accordance with plans and specifications. They ensure the final product meets Old Dominion Heat Trace's quality in construction benchmarks.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work.
  • Runs a pre-task plan and daily huddle with the crew to proactively communicate and identify potential issues with safety, quality, and time impacts.
  • Communicates with project team regarding logistics, including material, equipment and labor needs.
  • Installs fully functional heat trace systems based on the contract documents.
  • Completes required test reports.
  • Orders the approved material needed for the project.
  • Ensures the crew meets daily productivity goals.
  • Ensures the crew works safely, following all local, state, and federal laws and regulations and codes pertaining to the scope of work.
  • Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and completion.
  • Monitor job costing, quality reporting, forecasting, and productivity to ensure project is on schedule and within budget.
  • Review and report on work in progress daily, develop job progress and look ahead schedules to ensure construction projects meet expectations.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision and scheduling of laborers, ensuring the proper crew is assigned to each project.
  • Provides safe and effective on-the-job training for new and inexperience crew members.
  • Proactively perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
  • Responsible for tools and material inventory management and safeguarding company assets on projects.
  • Ensures project assigned equipment is in good working order, performing inspections as required.
  • Keeps company vehicle clean per the company vehicle policy.
  • Reviews the project schedule weekly, identifies scheduling delays, conflicts, or other issues; and communicates with the project team on ways to problem solve, catch up, and improve.
  • Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner.
  • Act as a liaison with customers, other contractors, suppliers, project management, and craft workers to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule and specifications.
  • Work with the project team, client, leadership, and other stakeholders in to clarify, discuss, and resolve issues an effective and timely manner; be responsive to phone calls and other communications concerning assigned projects.
  • Maintain certifications necessary to perform duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in construction with HS diploma or GED; OR an equivalent combination of training, education and relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of proper construction techniques, practices, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage teams on the job site
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction plans and documents
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with different groups working on a project, including but not limited to the customer, other contractors, project team, vendors, and laborers
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail with a focus on error prevention
  • Leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be a proactive self-starter, problem solver, and effective team player
  • Ability to understand, follow, and communicate standard operating policies and procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements in a positive and constructive manner
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English, Spanish)
  • Commercial insulation and/or heat trace experience
  • Experience leading/supervising construction crews

 

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat and climb.
  • Able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Able to work with specialized construction equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Be physically active for long periods of time.
  • Able to see, talk and hear in person, via phone and/or through online/video.
  • Able to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone.
  • Able to lift & carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires activities involving being around moving mechanical parts and machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, working at various heights, and exposure to dust, fumes, gases, toxic, caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
  • Must be able to travel daily to job sites and meetings.
