General Description:?
Special education behavior supports paraprofessionals assist students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher in a self-contained classroom. The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.
Qualifications?
High School Diploma. Preference will be given to candidate with prior work experience in an educational setting.
Primary Responsibilities?
- Consultation and collaboration with Special Education and General Education Teachers.
- Implements behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and reinforcing learning concepts under the supervision of assigned teacher.
- Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive school environment.
- Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans, and ensuring students success in school all under the supervision of assigned teacher.
- Implement CPI physical interventions (with prior training).
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.?
- Perform other responsibilities related to the position as assigned by the Director of Special Education
School Activities
- Special Education - Paraprofessional is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperone student activities, provide guidance for students, participate on faculty committees, study and help resolve school problems.
Essential Skills and Abilities?
- Experience and expertise in behavioral management and collaborative problem solving
- Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials
- Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications
- Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility
