Job title: Roman Catholic Pastoral Care

Location: Bethesda, MD 20814 USA

Duties:

  • The candidate shall work 36 hours per week (1,872 hours a month).
  • The candidate shall provide pastoral care visits to patients, family members, and other visitors.
  • The candidate shall provide religious services, e.g., Roman Catholic Mass, baptisms, and weddings.
  • The candidate shall plan, coordinate, and provide six weekly Catholic Masses.
  • The candidate shall provide additional ceremonies and services as directed.
  • All Masses and other religious services shall fall between the hours of 1130hrs and 1245hrs, Sunday to Friday including Federal Holidays.
  • The candidate shall provide four hours of on-call coverage per week as needed for Roman Catholic patients.
  • The candidate shall make recommendations regarding Catholic ceremonies and services.
  • The candidate may provide up to three sessions of pastoral counseling to Catholic hospital staff members with issues of a spiritual nature.
  • The candidate shall provide religious education about Catholicism as it pertains to the care of Catholic patients for hospital staff as directed.
  • The candidate shall perform administrative work to coordinate ceremonies and services in coordination with the staff action officer as directed.

Education and qualifications:

  • The candidate shall have a master’s degree from a graduate school accredited by the American Council on Education or foreign equivalent, in one of the following areas: Catholic studies, counseling, psychology, social work, or the equivalent.
  • The candidate shall be experienced in providing pastoral care to patients, their family members, and visitors.
  • The candidate shall have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in pastoral ministry.
  • The candidate shall have experience working in a religiously pluralistic organization.
  • The candidate shall be proficient enough in oral and written English to effectively communicate with all Patients and other health care providers.
  • The candidate shall possess knowledge of computer operations and be proficient in using of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
  • The candidate shall be proficient in applying Catholic doctrine.
  • The candidate shall be a citizen of the United States or have lawfully entered the United States for permanent residence.

Hours of work:

  • The candidate is responsible for conducting business Sunday thru Friday 0515hrs to 1115hrs including Federal Holidays except when the Government facility is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government directed facility closings.
