Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

$28.00/hr. - $35.00/hr. DOQ

What You Will Do

The Lead Mechanical Assembly Technician for our new Afternoon Shift is responsible to lead all aspects of Mechanical Assembly on specific projects, leading designated project team to ensure project delivery is on-time, cost effective, high quality, and safe. Project lead will work with Final assembly supervisor and relevant project manager (Engineering org) to address all questions regarding technical, manufacturing, and commercial requirements of each project being led.

Essential Functions. Other duties as assigned.

Leadership Project Delivery

  • Develops plan for most effective production of assigned projects under guidance of Engineering (assigned PM/ME). Where possible, attends PPRs. Directs project setup, layout, and usage of tooling.
  • Assures timely delivery of assigned projects; advises leadership when schedules not realistic; recommends staffing plans/hours in order to achieve schedules.
  • Provide work assignments to employees and assist them with assembly/wiring instruction and/or production assistance.
  • Makes recommendations to Manufacturing Manger on final assembly team staffing to optimize build time and cost efficiency; recommends specific opportunities for short-term (1-3 days) use of temporary employees on own team.
  • Takes full responsibility for team productivity, including guidance vs. hours, redirecting when not staying on task, optimal team deployment on project tasks, ensuring adequate tools, minimizing inefficiency, etc. Ensures new operators and temporary employees demonstrate proficiency.
  • Provides work direction and guidance to employees working in final assembly area. Proactively mentors assigned team members, helping them develop trade skills. Provides positive feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Does post project review on large projects with project managers, documenting all NCRs and other learning's.
  • Ensures all aspects of the Quality Policy and Objectives are understood and enacted. Ensures all workmanship meet IE quality standards; inspects products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Enforces safety regulations. Leads by example in safe production.
  • Maintains project production records.

Technical Assembly

  • Install a variety of electrical equipment and component devices such as: cable trays, conduit, brackets, pipe hangers, assembly mounts for HVAC units, pumps, etc.
  • Measure, cut and bend buss bar for specific projects.
  • Insulate buildings and hang doors, install siding.
  • Assemble, fit and mount sub-assemblies, components, and standard fixed assemblies in electrical control equipment.
  • Follow quality process in checking procedures and equipment to verify mechanical integrity of units.
  • Position, align, or adjust work pieces or electrical parts to facilitate wiring or assembly.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical or electronic component parts to correct defects and to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting duties as required and diagnose cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and make necessary repairs.
  • Perform installations compliant with current regulations and customer specifications.
  • Responsible for assigned project completion, quality and delivery according to work schedule.

Assembly / wiring /control test

  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions.
  • Develops efficient assembly plans and assigns tasks to team members on each project.
  • Interpret and work from technical assembly prints for installation.
  • Carries out initial control testing; ensures quality standards are met and signs off on end of project QA forms.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose cause mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and make necessary repairs.
  • Recommend or initiate modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards.
  • Thinks outside of the box, helping to develop better ways of doing things then works with Supervisors and Engineering to implement these changes.

Tools and Equipment

  • Various hand tools - wire strippers, crimpers, drill, and razor knife.
  • Use overhead crane, forklift, hoists, to assist in electrical assembly and moving materials/projects.
  • Properly care for and maintain tools in good operating condition; ensure tools and equipment is properly stored at the end of each shift.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School/GED required plus two years industrial experience in shop/manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education related experience. Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand mechanical schematics/ drawings and specification charts and make direct application to project set up and final product. Must be able to read, and understand production reports related to quality, and quantity. Must be able to write NCR's and comply with safety rules. Must be able to establish productive and effective communication ties and relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and staff.
  • Ability to compute basic math - buss bar, siding measurements, etc. Must be able to accurately follow schematics. Ability to understand and know company operation costs and production costs and production overrun costs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to analyze and understand project plan documents and specifications, schematics and electrical diagrams.
  • Must be able to successfully resolve practical problems typically encountered in this line of work.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to use computer to log in time and job hours, conduct electrical tests and correspondence and email.
  • A Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Must possess valid OSHA forklift and Overhead Crane certification or ability to obtain such.
  • This job has lead responsibilities only in the final assembly area.
  • Oversees output of work product and quality in cell group, trains and provides guidance to co-workers in training.
  • Some leadership experience in industrial electrical distribution equipment manufacturing or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and understand wiring schematics and layout diagrams.
  • Experience with various hand tools, crimpers, wire strippers, electrical testing equipment.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Confident with the ability to work closely with other technicians and management while keeping production flowing and meeting due dates.
  • Demonstrated proficiency to achieve high quality results in electrical assemblies, wiring and troubleshooting through continual attention to detail and anticipation of potential problems during the early planning and design review stages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent assignments.

Safety:

  • Must comply with and follow all IE safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for safety of team members.
  • Comply with Arc Flash safety standards and other applicable safety requirements.
  • Must operate and perform job duties in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to operate/work safely around machinery/moving equipment.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.
  • Must be able to perform frequent heavy lifting and continual bending and standing on a concrete floor.

Work Schedule:

Must be able to work a 48-hour work week.
