General Summary

This position works in a complex technical and production environment that spans multiple database types and vendors. The Administrator, Database & ETL is an integral part of our company supporting the operation and administration of enterprise solutions and data assets. The role also works closely with our internal clients to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our database infrastructure.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing, configuring, and maintaining database management support tools.
  • Assists higher level resources in consulting with clients and development areas in the design and implementation of projects.
  • Consults with clients to determine database requirements.
  • Navigates and maintains databases on a variety of operating systems and cloud environments.
  • Manages projects as assigned and serves as subject matter expert to other technical analysts as assigned.
  • Plays an instrumental role in the physical design, testing, modeling, and implementation of any and all databases and the publication of technical artifacts and standard operating procedures and improvements to processes.
  • Performs activities encompassing all operations of database platforms, including modeling, designing, and creating objects to facilitate development using various SQL servers.
  • Performs quality assurance, disaster recovery and consistency checking independently as well as under the guidance of higher levels or external resources and analyzes metric trending data regarding serviceability and uptime.
  • Provides complete resolution of escalated Tier-2 production problems.
  • Meets with appropriate personnel to determine requirements necessary for ETL, systems integration, design and data migration work, including migrating data from various data sources.
  • Builds scalable ETLs using SSIS or other cloud-based environments for large volumes of legacy data encompassing complex transformation logic.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains internal databases for development, testing, and integration purposes and troubleshoots issues in multiple environments at different levels including the database, application, and system levels with use of SQL profiler.
  • Designs and builds data marts including all security recommendations to protect Rise Broadbands data assets.
  • Evaluates existing database schema and recommends and performs enhancements, tuning and improvements.
  • Provides scoping and estimating on ETL deliverables.
  • Maintains existing MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL servers and associated applications.
  • Monitors and tests database backup and recovery systems and procedures.
  • Executes department procedures and standards; writes, prepares, and maintains documentation regarding databases, applications, and data flows.
  • Writes basic scripts to automate tasks and troubleshoots issues related to enterprise systems offering scientific methods for identification and resolution.
  • Gathers business requirements and analyzes data sources to transform into BI reporting specifications. Automates BI reporting between databases.
  • Creates interactive dashboard, applied actions, and drill through reports by extracting data from different sources using parameters, sets, groups and calculations.
  • Extracts, transforms and loads data directly from different source systems such as flat files, Excel, and SQL Server.
  • Responsible for access control and responds to thresholds and alerts to ensure availability of systems.
  • Works within a team on database issues; takes direction from others and escalates issues when necessary.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance
  • Works on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and/or beyond regular work hours due to customer or operational demands, as needed.
  • Adheres to all Company standard procedures, policies and safety practices in the course of performing work activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Information Systems, MIS or Computer Science or a technical area and five years’ experience in BI reporting / analysis, preferably in the telecommunications industry; degree requirement may be waived for a combination of education and experience; advanced degree preferred
  • Must be fluent with SQL
  • Familiar with database clusters. Experience with Galera clusters is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Data Warehousing techniques, terminology and implementation and ETL
  • Understands intricacies of data warehouse design and how to optimize for dashboards and reporting
  • Experience with ETL processes and exposure to SSIS, Snowflake, and Looker are a plus
  • Experience with automating DBA tasks
  • Experience with data modeling and schema design
  • Experience using parameters, dynamics groups and sets, data hierarchies, filters, calculated fields and other custom functions like string functions, date functions and logical functions
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong logical and analytical thinker with attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work tasks

  • Employee will regularly be required to work in tight spaces, under desks, in closets, equipment racks, overhead cable management, ceilings and under raised floors
