This is a Student Ministry role for the Mclean Bible Church Montgomery County Location (MBC MoCo). Montgomery County is the largest county in Maryland with a population of over one million people. It’s widely known for its ethnic and cultural diversity, economic affluence, high percentage of adults with postgraduate degrees, as well as being a hub for scientific research and US government offices. Montgomery County, along with bordering areas, provides a unique opportunity to reach the nations for Christ in a post-Christian context.

MBC MoCo is a multigenerational church family that includes young adults, families, transient professionals, and long-time residents, representing all kinds of ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds. Although we’re diverse in age, we remain steadfast in creating ministry environments that strategically evangelize and disciple the emerging generation. The Rock Student Ministries (RSM) is our ministry to 6th-12th grade students that aims to encourage and equip teenagers in Montgomery County to be disciples of Jesus Christ who makes disciples. The teenagers of Montgomery County are immersed in a culture that can be described as secular, post-Christian (indifferent or even antagonistic toward the Christian faith), and morally relative. It’s important that the Rock Student Ministries Coordinator feels called and equipped by God to minister to teenagers living in this type of context.

The Rock Student Ministries Coordinator serves alongside the Director of Student Ministries & Young Adults to implement and execute the vision and mission of Mclean Bible Church Montgomery County in the lives of students and their families. Under the leadership of the Director of Student Ministries and Young Adults, the RSM Coordinator will be a committed disciple of Jesus able to spiritually lead both middle & high school students, with a special emphasis on our high school ministry, as well as their parents in accordance with the Word of God.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Serve alongside the Director of Student Ministries and Young Adults, following the vision, mission and strategy laid out to reach and disciple teenagers in Montgomery County.
  • Assist the Director of Student Ministries and Young Adults in crafting and implementing sermon series for RSM at MBC Montgomery County (MBC MoCo).
  • Disciple students within the context of small group leadership, large group leadership, the teaching of God’s Word, and 1-on-1 counseling meetings.
  • Assist with leading Sunday morning gatherings for middle school students alongside Director of Student Ministries and Young Adults.
  • Under the overall leadership of the Director of Student Ministries and Young Adults, take ownership of the overall proper functioning and flourishing of our high school ministry, comprised of weekly gatherings, monthly classes, and periodic hangout events.
    1. Plan and lead weekly high school ministry gatherings on Wednesday nights.
    2. Plan and lead high school classes occurring monthly on Sundays during the 11 am service.
    3. Plan and lead periodic high school hangouts.
  • Serve on the RSM teaching team, regularly teaching the Word during middle and high school gatherings.
  • Regularly lead a small group at both middle school and high school gatherings.
  • Assist with public speaking elements during middle and high school gatherings including announcements, large group games, prayer, public reading of Scripture, and teaching.
  • Assist in leading & equipping RSM volunteers with materials and resources tto help them faithfully lead small group discussions and minister to their students.
  • Assist in leading RSM leader huddles before RSM gatherings on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.
  • Assist with baptism interviews for teenagers as needed.
  • Serve as a staff leader during annual summer and winter camps for middle and high school students.
  • Collaborate with RSM staff across MBC locations in the planning and execution of RSM summer and winter camps.
  • Attend regular meetings with MBC MoCo NextGen Ministries staff to discuss overall family ministry strategy and effectiveness.
  • Attend regular meetings with MBC MoCo staff to discuss overall day-to-day ministry strategy and effectiveness at the MBC MoCo location.
  • Attend and serve at mandatory MBC MoCo events (e.g., church picnics, prayer nights)
  • Participate in the overall life of the church as an active member.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist in logistical planning and executing RSM weekly gatherings, monthly events, and seasonal camps.
  • Assist with implementing and adhering to MBC’s child safety and security policies that protect minors in our care.
  • Reserve rooms required for RSM gatherings/events by working with MBC MoCo’s Location Administrator.
  • Track receipts and reimbursement requests and submit them to Director of Student Ministries and Young Adults.
  • Share the service flow and necessary leader resources for RSM Gatherings with non-staff RSM leader teams such as small group leaders, RSM Worship team, and A/V team.
  • Assist with scheduling RSM leaders to serve via the Planning Center platform.
  • Logistically plan and execute monthly high school Classes on the last Sunday of the month.
  • Assist in drafting and sending out monthly emails to RSM parents detailing upcoming events and activities pertaining to RSM at MBC MoCo.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a clear communication plan that keeps families informed on ministry updates (e.g., parent emails, monthly newsletter, ministry updates, text platform, social media)
  • Oversee and manage MBC MoCo RSM social media across active platforms.
  • Ensure RSM spaces are set up with excellence before RSM gatherings and events.
  • Develop and maintain a safe, clean, & aesthetically-pleasing learning environment for all RSM areas and events.
  • Collaborate with other MBC MoCo staff and volunteers as necessary for RSM gatherings/events to coordinate logistics such as worship, production, and communications.
  • Assist in ideation and execution of strategic plans for RSM outreach & expansion.
  • Assist in recruitment, training, and onboarding of non-staff RSM leaders.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Ministry and Young Adults.

Qualifications

  1. Must be a passionate disciple of Jesus Christ who continually seeks to abide in Christ and demonstrates the biblical requirements for leaders.
  2. Must be a servant leader with a demonstrated ability to lead others sacrificially on mission.
  1. Must be able to relate to teenagers and their families and have a passion to see families grow in their faith together.
  2. Must have high capacity to teach, lead, & disciple students, leaders, & parents.
  3. Must be or be ready to become a member of McLean Bible Church.
  4. Must be an effective communicator in both speech and writing.
  1. Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  1. Must be wired to pursue constant improvement of the ministry.
  2. Must have basic technological competence.
  3. Previous student ministry coordination experience preferred, or equivalent marketplace experience.
  1. Bachelor’s degree not required but preferred.

Working Conditions

  • This is a 25 hr/week position
  • The RSM Coordinator will generally work Sunday-Thursdays. Including, Wednesday evenings and occasional weekend events.
  • This position occasionally requires travel, particularly for cross-campus coordination meetings for RSM camps. It may also require local travel, such as for off-site meetings with students, parents, and/or leaders.
  • The RSM Coordinator generally works in-person at McLean Bible Church Montgomery County Location.
