Job Summary

Scattermesh is expanding its team and we are looking to hire experienced 3D Character Artists to work across client projects on a full time basis in Herndon, VA. The role requires a skilled artist with a broad background to create highly functional rigs to mimic realistic movements and expressions. The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of anatomy and realism and can add dynamism to our 3D models. We're looking forward to seeing your resume if this sounds like you.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Realistic Characters - Create believable and detailed 3D characters applying your strong understanding of anatomy, modeling, sculpting and texturing expertise from scratch or scan data based on concept art.
• Push Realism to the Limit - Use exceptional modeling and texturing ability to create living, breathing characters with personality and highly realistic textures (skin, eyes, hair, fabric, etc.)
• Bring Characters to Life - Apply latest techniques with strong understanding of lighting to deliver high quality 3D renders.
• Deliver Results - Conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a schedule, while actively participating in technical and artistic problem solving.
• Raise the Quality Bar - Collaborate with the art director and other artists to set the visual style and quality bar being willing to provide and receive feedback designed to improve end products.

Qualifications and Skills

• 3+ years’ experience as a 3D artist or relevant portfolio
• Strong aesthetic appreciation for scale, composition, proportion, mass and volume, light, lighting and color, and surface properties
• Excellent understanding of human anatomy, particularly facial features, with supporting character and costume designs across multiple styles
• Mastery of standard art packages such as Maya, Substance, MudBox, Zbrush etc
• Solid grasp of color theory and lighting techniques
• Experience managing content and developing pipelines to push the envelope
• Experience with a variety of relevant techniques (including facial blendshapes and correctives, pose space deformation shapes, animated wrinkles and normal maps, hair and fur, body kits and accessories) a plus
• Experience applying tools (i.e. XGen) for hair grooming and building convincing 3D hair a plus
• Experience with Marvelous Designer to create clothing accessories for 3D characters a plus
• US citizenship required
