The Board of Pharmacy Specialties

Vision Statement: The Board of Pharmacy Specialties, the premier post-licensure certification agency, will ensure that BPS Board Certified Pharmacists are recognized within healthcare delivery systems while serving the needs of the public and the pharmacy profession.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties is to improve patient care by promoting the recognition and value of specialized training, knowledge, and skills in pharmacy and specialty board certification of pharmacists. We accomplish this mission by:

  • Providing leadership for the profession of pharmacy in the discussion, evolution, direction and recognition of specialty board certification of pharmacists.
  • Establishing and promoting, in collaboration with stakeholders, the value of pharmacy specialization and board certification.
  • Establishing the standards for identification and recognition of pharmacy specialties.
  • Establishing standards of eligibility, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists as the basis for board certification.
  • Developing and administering a valid process to evaluate the knowledge and skills for recognition of board-certified pharmacists.

Assessing and recognizing the continued eligibility, knowledge, and skills of board-certified pharmacist specialists through a valid re-certification process.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As the BPS Recertification Specialist, you will:

  • Evaluate and process applications for recertification by examination and recertification by professional development program across all BPS specialties.
  • Notify recertification-eligible certificants of requirements. Follows up on unsubmitted recertification applications from eligible certificants. Informs recertification-eligible certificants of outstanding dues and implications.
  • Assist with delisting, continuing pharmacy education (CPE) reconciliation, recertification examination registration, extension requests, and physical certificate and digital badge distribution for successful recertification candidates.
  • Respond to telephonic, written, and electronic inquiries regarding BPS policies and procedures, particularly related to recertification in a timely manner.
  • Inform certificants of resources available by BPS and of recertification products available by BPS-approved professional development program (PDP) providers.
  • Identify trends in recertification-related inquiries to inform communication templates (i.e., “macros”), to enhance communication campaigns, and to improve public-facing information.
  • Track and assist in resolution of urgent and adverse issues experienced by certificants recertifying by both PDP and examination.
  • Collaborate with BPS Manager, Recertification and BPS Manager, Continuing Professional Development to enhance visibility of recertification information and explores opportunities to increase successful recertification and address certificant concerns/barriers.
  • Ensures accuracy of recertification-related records in BPS database system for all board-certified pharmacists.
  • Assists with maintaining up-to-date information on recertification webpages (e.g., Recertification Guide, Dual/Multi-Specialty Certification) and internal standard operating procedures with consistent frequency.
  • Assists in generation of regular recertification reports to inform strategic recertification initiatives with the goal of increasing recertification rates across board-certified pharmacists.
  • Assist in auditing recertification records for accuracy and adherence to BPS policies (e.g., continuing professional development, CPE, licensure).
  • Assist in maintenance of recertification-related quality management files and reports needed for accreditation (NCCA and ISO 17024).
  • Perform necessary record keeping (in accordance with standard operating procedures, BPS policies, and accreditation standards) of BPS materials and certificant correspondence related to recertification.


LOCATION: Washington, DC – Hybrid, two days a week in the office (Tuesday & Thursday)

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education required:

Bachelor’s degree. In lieu of degree, other relevant field experience may be considered.

Experience required:

3 years of relevant organizational/administrative experience

Additional skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Database management experience
  • Basic project management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external teams
  • Proficiency with all components of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple work tasks effectively
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail
