Job Overview

Provides assistance to customers for placing pari-mutuel wagers and responsible for executing consistent, friendly, and accurate service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service in a friendly, approachable manner at all times.
  • Responsible for processing pari-mutuel wagers for customers, accurately and efficiently.
  • Redeems winning tickets in professional manner without asking or hinting for a tip/gratuity.
  • Maintains and secures all cash and cash equivalents in possession, while providing accurate financial reporting through the POS system.
  • Participates in the maintenance of supporting cash receipts documentation and accumulation of information for daily and monthly journal entries.
  • Balances all money transactions and paperwork.
  • Performs all functions in accordance with established company policies, procedures, and controls
  • Promotes and explains events and special wagers as advertised by the company.
  • Answers questions and teaches unexperienced guests about how to wager without making choices or encouraging them to make any specific selections.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, internal policies/procedures, and internal control protocols.
  • Always maintains professionalism when working with other team members and/or guests.
  • Performs other related and compatible duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred. Technical school or formal apprenticeship may be required.
  • Must be able to work effectively with peers, staff members, and regulatory agency personnel.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to quickly learn how to use wagering type POS systems.
  • Skilled at 10-key punch.
  • 2 years minimum of cash handling experience in fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required, including adequate hearing to understand very specific information in noisy environments.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risks associated with travel between buildings and back and forth to other areas as may be required due to business demands. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including second-hand environmental smoke. The employee may be exposed to the risks associated in attempting to resolve issues with extremely irate or difficult guests or staff members. The noise level in the work environment varies from light to moderate.

Licenses, Certifications, Registration: Requires a General or Professional Occupational License. This position falls under the parameters of the agreement between Gulfstream Park Racing Association, Inc. and The Independent Association of Pari-Mutuel Employees, the “Guild”.
