The Safety and Training Specialist is responsible for training newly hired employees and re-training existing employees for general warehouse tasks and duties to include a variety of safety processes and basic to intermediate skills. The position serves as a safety point of contact in the warehouse and is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining a high level of health, safety, and environmental programs to assist in establishing a safe work environment for employees. Aiding in the development of Meyer’s safety team and programs. Maintain required safety and health documents to ensure that Meyer follows OSHA regulations and is compliant within those standards.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Education/Certification(s): High school diploma or GED required. Associate Degree in Business or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years of experience in safety or related field required or have a degree in risk management or other safety related education preferred. Active first aid certification and completion Certificate for OSHA 30hr class is preferred.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues.
  • Intervene in unsafe activities or operations
  • Conducting safety walks for each building in Jasper. Citing hazardous conditions, documenting and communicating hazardous conditions to appropriate personnel
  • Identify company training needs, provide recommendations and processes to improve safety, and help to develop and coordinate safety programs
  • Training and re-training as needed to improve job safety and expectations for individuals or groups
  • Ensuring that all powered industrial truck operators are certified as per Meyer policies
  • Perform first aid as needed
  • Enforcing OSH policies

Job Requirements:

  • Must have positive attitude
  • Bilingual preferred, must be fluent in English and communicate in Spanish
  • Must have general knowledge of federal, state and local safety laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of office equipment including, copier, fax machine, computers, etc.
  • Ability to give special attention to detail required
