This position is full-time, Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm and is based out of the South St. Paul Office. The starting salary is $5,364 per month.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for the non-standard data entry or processing specialist. This Data Specialist is someone with a solid knowledge of computer systems, ability to work between multiple systems on your screen, ability to function in a paperless environment, knowledge of Excel, and functions within Excel.

The primary duties of the Data Specialist (DS) include managing and maintaining our UnionWare membership database and providing support to users. The DS will be responsible for the maintenance as well as data entry, report needs specification and analysis. This position is heavily detail-oriented and requires daily in-depth use of our database system. DS works closely with and actively assists the Information Systems Director and Finance Director to assure timely cultivation and solicitation of data from employers. They must be personable, flexible, and highly organized, with excellent computer, writing, administrative, and communication skills. They will adhere to policies established by AFSCME Council 5 as well as to the organization’s goals and objectives.

  • The Data Specialist is responsible for various activities related to the network database(s) which may include any or all of the following:
  • Develop a thorough understanding of our industry specific database in order to maintain accurate membership records.
  • Organize and maintain online membership files to ensure the ready availability and safeguarding of information.
  • Responsible for oversight and troubleshooting of the database.
  • Reporting and extracting data for various reports.
  • Initiating database improvement.
  • Importing and mapping data received for the database.
  • Develop and maintain standards for database integrity and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate corrective activities to clean database.
  • Manage communication processes with other departments regarding database improvements.
  • Data entry.
  • Work with current membership/accounting staff to produce standard operating procedures in our database.
  • Maintain current data to ensure the quality of the data.
  • Conduct audits and provide feedback to reduce errors and improve processes and performance.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving abilities, good communication skills and be able to articulate previous experience in making decisions within the scope of your job. They also must be able to work independently as well as in a group setting.

  • Must have knowledge in maintaining and populating databases and computer files.
  • Must have ability to quickly become knowledgeable in using our industry specific database.
  • Must have experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing program goals.
  • Must have strong administrative skills, be highly organized, motivated and remain flexible under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize and set priorities a must.
  • Must have strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to overcome technical and non-technical challenges.
  • Must have excellent typing/computer skills, including high proficiency in Windows.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Access and Excel.
  • Must be extremely analytical and detailed-oriented, and maintain a high level of data integrity.
  • Skills to interpret needs of users to produce report output.

Minimum Associates Degree

2 years business experience working with data entry manipulation.

Programming knowledge is a plus.
