TITLE: Sales/Stock Clerk

REPORTS TO: Second Hand Rose Store Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS: The Sales/Stock Clerk is responsible for generating sales, providing customer service, operating a cash register, greeting and assisting donors, sorting, organizing and pricing donated items, and stocking merchandise for sale in the store.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy.
  • Administer and implement Turning Point and Second Hand Rose policies and procedures.
  • Maintain agency policy on confidentiality.
  • Generate sales of merchandise.
  • Ensure the highest level of customer service and donor relations. Interact with donors and customers to answer questions and solve problems. Provide a friendly, service oriented environment by greeting and acknowledging every guest and assisting as needed.
  • Supervise volunteers working in your area to ensure they are doing it correctly. Offer coaching if needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of current prices, sales and changes.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintain proper cash accountability at the cash register.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records as required.
  • Coordinate the next day’s sale with the Manager.
  • Create and maintain in-store and window displays.
  • Keep log book for furniture, estate sale and special pickups.
  • Responsible for upkeep of donor station at back door.
  • Remove all HOLD tags at time of expiration.
  • Rearrange and/or rotate furniture and merchandise as required to ensure optimal traffic flow, display and safety.
  • Advise Manager of merchandise that is not selling, areas in the store that need restocking or items that are priced incorrectly.
  • Assist cashier on duty to ensure proper customer service.
  • Sort, price and stock merchandise for sale in the store, being aware of store inventory.
  • Assist in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance and general store/backroom organization.
  • Responsible for following SHR safety procedures and for maintaining a safe and clean environment inside the store and backroom, as well as the outside premises of SHR.
  • Be able to perform the basic functions of the day-to-day store/backroom operations of SHR.
  • Be aware of store surroundings, report all possible shoplifters to management, or call the police if management is not immediately available.
  • Be aware of and adhere to Second Hand Rose policies with regard to staff purchases. Report all possible losses to management.
  • Keep store manager (or Lead Staff) informed of all potential problems.
  • Participate in applicable staff, committee meetings, and other meetings deemed necessary by Turning Point.
  • Conduct relationships with SHR and agency staff and volunteers to promote mutual respect and a positive and productive work environment.
  • Notify the SHR Store Manager, or Director of Administration of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and clients.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the SHR Store Manager.

LEAD STAFF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead Staff are experienced staff who has been designated to assume the responsibility for the management of SHR in the absence of the Store Manager. When so designated, they will have the following additional duties & responsibilities:

  • Perform store opening & closing procedures, including setting up cash register drawers and turning daily cash receipts over to Turning Point Accounting or placing in SHR safe.
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of all SHR staff, volunteers, and community service workers. This includes scheduling replacements for staff that calls in sick and scheduling daily lunch coverage.
  • Coordinate the daily sales & post on board.
  • Handle all customer or donor problems that staff are not able to resolve.
  • Perform any other duties necessary to ensure the safe & smooth operation of the store.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work independently
  • Allows for flexibility in schedule and job function
  • Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be available to work weekends.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
