Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Follow Standard Operating (SOPs) procedures, seek appropriate training and training documentation for appliable SOPs, and perform associated procedures on animals, including but not limited to
  • Clinical observations, food consumption, body weights, urine collection, administering and monitoring anesthesia, mating procedures, administering test and control articles, blood collection, restraint, euthanasia, tissue collection, catheter placement, feeding, food removal, pre-and post-surgical observations on laboratory animals.
  • Perform other laboratory or animal procedures for which he/she has been trained as required by protocols and /or SOP’s.
  • Assist surgeons as needed.
  • Assist veterinarians, as needed.
  • Observe and record all physical signs of animal health and report all study changes to the Supervisor and/or Study Director.
  • Provide daily husbandry care and maintenance required for the health and cleanliness of research animals and their housing facilities in accordance with established procedures and schedules that adhere to State and Federal regulations and accrediting agencies guidelines (AAALAC).
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of task completion.
  • Work with the study director on addressing quality assurance audits.
  • Assist with the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) in determining compliance with GLP.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the laboratory spaces used.
  • Work independently to manage time and ensure tasks assigned are performed as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to cage wash and cleaning procedures.


Requirements:

Ideally, we’d like to see:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant experience.
  • Experience working with small and large laboratory animal models.
  • Experience with GLP-compliant studies is highly desirable.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Good scientific writing skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate as part of a team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment may consist of moderate noise (i.e business office computers, phones, printers, and light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
