UCS Healthcare is excited to collect interest for any potential 2024 Student Counselor opportunities.

Our part-time Student Counselors will assist clients in achieving their goals through individual and group counseling services under the supervision of a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) to obtain field experience and meet their school expectations.

Our Student Counselors will be paid a competitive hourly rate and are expected to work between 16-30 hours per week. Openings for internships are based on supervision availability and organizational capacity.

Location

Based on the programming assigned, work hours will vary to meet the needs of school, credentialing, and licensing expectations. Hours are from 6 am to 8 pm Monday-Thursday, 6 am-5 pm Friday, and 6 am-2 pm Saturdays. You may be assigned to any of the agency office locations (West Des Moines, Ankeny, and Knoxville).

Skills We Look For

  • Must excel in a team environment, adhere to agency policy and procedures, engage in critical thinking, and utilize problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Communicates information and ideas in a manner that is clear, organized, and detailed.
  • Can assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Acts empathetically in working with clients who may have multiple problems.
  • Ability to work with a diverse client population and various treatment modalities (group, individual, in-jail, methadone, correctional/legal system, and so on).
  • Demonstrates a learning mindset and desire to improve continually.
