Position Summary

This specialized position will act as a support to our Billing team and ensure timely processing of mail and claims. This is an administrative position, requiring an individual who is detail-oriented, analytical, focused, service-oriented, and responsive with a willingness to help. The Billing Clerk will be an on-site position and based out of the SMIL Business Office. The position encounters high volumes of translations and some protected health information, therefore, the candidate must carry out these functions with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. This individual must consistently demonstrate exemplary performance in line with SMIL's Performance Standards in the areas of Attendance, Quality, Productivity, Customer Service, Teamwork, Job Knowledge, Communication, Problem Solving, Initiative & Energy as well as adherence to Workplace Guidelines.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for claim edits, claim rejections, interface translations and merges, mail sorting, electronic mail returns, printing documents, preparing outgoing mail, and various support tasks as assigned.
  • Contacts patients and referring physicians as needed via phone, fax, or other means to secure required additional information to support billing.
  • Identifies and reports issues or trends impacting the ability to submit timely filing of claims.
  • Resolve internal and external customer inquiries promptly with minimal supervision. Inquiries may be received via inbound calls, tickler requests, email, or instant messages.
  • Use appropriate patient search criteria when attempting to locate or match patient records between the Fuji RIS and Imagine systems.
  • Provides data entry support to update Imagine system with missing data or other updates
  • Scan paperwork as needed into patient accounts or share with billing team members.
  • Comply with performance standards and departmental goals.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance.
  • Uphold all SMIL policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalen
  • 1+ years of computer data entry required.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus.
