Role Overview:

Under the direction of the Chief Marketing Officer, the Business Development Manager will work closely with Firm professionals, including leadership, practice chairs, and individual timekeepers, to support the development of new business and deepen existing client relationships. This role is responsible for developing and implementing business development plans, as well as identifying opportunities for current and potential clients. In addition, the Business Development Manager will be integral in building brand awareness for the Firm, aligning those efforts with broader Firm and practice goals. Preferred Location: DC Metro.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Firm leadership, practice chairs, individual timekeepers, and the broader Marketing team to create and implement strategic business development plans and promote the Firm’s services while understanding, addressing, and aligning our efforts with targets’ and clients’ objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a rolling pipeline that tracks targets, opportunities, and progress updates to help professionals achieve goals.
  • Provide business development coaching in group and one-on-one settings and support professionals in the development and execution of their individual business development plans.
  • Enhance and/or develop a deep understanding of information law space to support business development efforts, including competitive landscape analysis, targeted lead generation strategies, industry event implementation, and profile-raising opportunities.
  • Support Redgrave Review and Analytics offering with developing and executing business development strategy and lead generation initiatives.
  • Identify key profile-raising opportunities—such as conferences, organizational involvement, speaking engagements, and writing opportunities—that will raise the Firm’s profile in targeted industries or practice areas.
  • Lead the business development strategy underpinning events and sponsorships, maximizing the business development value of each.
  • Manage and drive follow-up on assigned business development initiatives and coordinate business development efforts across the Firm.
  • Assist with developing and managing business development budgets, including providing insight into the return on investment of expenditures.
  • Provide ongoing marketing research, competitive intelligence, and analysis; gather intelligence on emerging market and industry trends to provide professionals with an understanding of the competitive landscape and to position the Firm for increased effectiveness in winning new business.
  • Manage the compilation, development, tracking, and maintenance of relevant CRM database contacts/mailing lists.
  • Work with the CMO to identify and leverage press opportunities that support business development goals.
  • Provide strategic guidance to professionals and support the development of relevant content and positioning for pitch materials, proposals, and RFP responses; and occasionally lead proposal responses.
  • Support client feedback interviews, surveys, and other client-specific programs such as lunch and learns, site visits, presentations, etc.
  • Build relationships with key industry and practice group organizations as a market-facing resource and ambassador for the Firm.
  • Support the full integration of lateral hires to ensure the continuity of their existing client relationships and successful incorporation into ongoing Redgrave LLP business development efforts.
  • Ensure the compilation and maintenance of relevant Firm-related content, materials, and experience.

Key Qualifications:

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a strong client service orientation and the ability to collaborate successfully within a professional organization.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication, proofreading, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to analyze data and use multiple sources of information to develop solutions and recommendations.
  • Experience and comfort with influencing decision-making among senior leadership, including generating buy-in for starting, continuing, or stopping business development initiatives based on their perceived ROI.
  • 6+ years of marketing, business development, strategic planning, or other relevant experience in a professional services environment, preferably a law firm or consulting advisory firm.
  • Experience in information law (eDiscovery, review, information governance, data privacy, and cybersecurity) practice is preferred.
  • Supervisory, managerial, and project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of customer relationship, pipeline, and experience management databases.
  • Familiarity with relevant company/market research tools, as well as law firm rankings, awards, and publications.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
