Sr. Systems Engineer, Virtualization and Cloud

The Sr system engineer will be part of technology development (TD) team and is responsible for system development, implementation, and testing in both in-premises virtualized and cloud environments. This critical role will focus on system functional requirement, system design and implementation with internal, commercial, and open-source components, and system integration with API, messaging, and special protocols. The qualified candidate must have good knowledge and solid experience in virtual infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code, software development, as well as familiar with DveOps and CI/CD common practices. The ideal candidate shall be a good team player and can communicate well from a technical perspective with internal and external teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate business use case and concept to define technical requirement and propose relevant system and network architecture in SmartSky in-premises or cloud environment.
2. Creating high level and low-level design documents, method of procedure document, and operation and troubleshooting guideline document.
3. Creating system standard configuration, Infrastructure as Code scripts, System provision, data handling, and system management automation scripts.
4. Managing or support system functional test, regression test, acceptance test.
5. Support system troubleshooting and issue remediation
6. Conducts knowledge transfer to internal team members or option staff members.
7. Develop usage policy and guideline for cloud computing, network, storage, security, and application hosting for the best of performance, cost saving, and security.
8. Develop and maintain a DevOps process for streamlining SmartSky commercial service development, service provisioning, service rollout, and service operation.
9. Develop and maintain a DevOps process for data center infrastructure operation automation such as system upgrade and periodic system audit.
10. Working closely with SmartSky technology suppliers, private cloud service providers, WAN service providers, managed service provider and Internet service providers to implement virtualization and cloud solution according to the deployment timeline.
11. Acting as design and technology expert and communicating closely with network service providers to provider on-going problem resolution support during deployment, pre-production, and production phases.
12. Traveling in support of business needs and company events when needed.

Desired/Required Skills, Qualifications, and Work Experience:

1. Strong VMware vSphere, NSX design, deployment, and operation experience
2. Strong docker and Kubernetes design, development, and operation experience
3. Strong application configuration and deployment experience
4. Strong GCP and AWS service architecture and cost analysis experience
5. Strong GCP and AWS cloud service catalog and use case knowledge
6. Strong virtualized and containerized service design and development experience
7. Strong script language (Python, PowerCli, Shell, etc) development experience
8. Strong DevOps and agile working experience
9. Strong cloud service API requirement, design, and operation experience
10. Strong working experience on Git, and JIRA
11. Strong Linux OS hand-on experience
12. Troubleshooting application and network issues

Required Certifications/Licenses/Degrees:

1. BS, MS degree in CS or equivalent experience.
2. VMWare professional certificates are desired
3. AWS/GCO professional certificates are desired
