Service Technician-Automation


Department: Service

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt

PURPOSE

The Service Technician-Automation is responsible for supporting onsite or remote troubleshooting of existing Building Automation Systems (BAS), performing preventative software maintenance and completing upgrade/retrofit projects. Roles and responsibilities will be in line with the strategic goals of Baker Group. Maintain and grow the “Client for Life” concept for existing and new clients. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be constructed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Provide day-to-day technical support and troubleshooting and deliver integrated solutions on Building IT by Baker Group products and various other control products and technical integration (integrations to 3rd part systems) to operations
  • Actively participate in technician training
  • Present updated technical support to field technicians on company products
  • Deploy software upgrades and manage licensing
  • Diagnose and repair software issues on client sites
  • Diagnose and repair DDC issues with controllers, sensors, actuators, VFDs, relays, pneumatics, etc.
  • Work with other technicians to develop and share technical solutions
  • Review new technical documentation and provide communications and training from other field technicians
  • Maintain technical expertise on all new products, tools, and integration through continuing education initiatives
  • Attend project turnover meetings with Project Manager to gain knowledge of estimate and project scope
  • Create automation system database and job-related programming for computer-based building or industrial control systems
  • Establish special calibration instructions on selected equipment
  • Perform creation of system graphics and DDC systems graphics
  • Troubleshoot possible issues including identifying and debugging software, electrical or pneumatic and installation problems
  • Organize and maintain control submittal project redlines; turn over to design engineer for as built creation at project end
  • Assist in and/or provide on-site assistance with programming, start-up, checkout, commissioning, and validation processes
  • Participate in job site final walk-through on assigned jobs, complete all job closeout documentation and provide training to clients
  • Act as technical resource to existing clients and field employees as needed
  • Coordinate work with subcontractors and Project Manager

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Experience with HVAC & DDC systems preferred
  • 2-year degree in Electronics or Computer Programming or relevant years of experience with HVAC or Industrial Controls

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Customer service and communication skills
