Industrial Maintenance Manager

Darwin’s Natural Pet Products has a new full-time opportunity for an Industrial Maintenance Manager.

The Maintenance Manager will play an integral role in Darwin’s success by overseeing all installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of our facility as well as our processing and packaging operations. We are looking for a strategic and proactive leader whose experience and knowledge will increase efficiency, safety, and profitability.

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in daily operational meetings to communicate new issues, status reports on ongoing repairs, and completed projects.
  • Develop and manage budget for maintenance department by prioritizing projects based on safety, efficiency, and urgency.
  • Procure, negotiate contracts, and manage any required contractors needed to complete projects.
  • Set timelines and team schedules to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Create, implement, and periodically review safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all Darwin’s employees.
  • Maintain records and documents in accordance with company policies and all state and federal guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory for machine parts, tools, and other supplies needed on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance tasks and timing with departmental leaders to minimize downtime of affected departments.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures to determine if an adjustment, repair, or part replacement is necessary.
  • Adjust and repair machinery using standard hand and power tools and/or specialty tools such as Multimeter, OHM Meter, and Amp Probe.
  • Perform “on-line” repairs on all packaging/processing line equipment.
  • Fabricate needed parts if availability is low using grinder, drill press, band saw, mig, and/or tig welding equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment and/or operational failures.
  • Interview applicants and onboard new team members by sharing department specific policies, procedures, and culture.
  • Give regular feedback to individual team members and write annual performance reviews.
  • Issue disciplinary warnings and create performance improvement plans when needed.
  • Provide training for the safe operation of hand and power tools as well as general machine repairs.
  • Manage time and attendance for maintenance team.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of electrical schematics and ability to troubleshoot/repair electrical circuits.
  • Proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of proper Lock out/Tag out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Understanding of food manufacturing, specifically meat manufacturing processing and packaging equipment, including but not limited to high-speed vertical and horizontal form fed bagging machines, tumblers, grinder, conveyors, check weigher, and metal detector systems.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety and Regulatory business standards, practices, policies, and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations including, but not limited to HACCP, GMPs, SOPs, SSOPs, OSHA and Labor Laws.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow-through with accuracy on all projects to completion.
  • Ability to use discretion and critical judgment in all decisions.
  • Ability to foster an environment of teamwork and diversity.
  • Ability to implement solutions by being proactive and thinking strategically.

Desired Experience:

7+ yrs. working in a general manufacturing environment as a maintenance technician (Food industry preferred).

5+ yrs. in an industrial maintenance supervisory role.

  • Operation of a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Microsoft Office software applications at a medium to expert user level.
  • PLC wiring and ladder logic.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical wiring schematics, equipment manuals, and other technical literature.
  • Mechanical, electronic, electrical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Pneumatics and Hydraulics repair.
  • PLCs and vacuum equipment/machinery.

Pay Range: $110K-$130K

The compensation range for this position is based on experience level and credentials.
