Intern - Agronomy

Scope:

• Maintains golf course and related golf equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Performs daily course set-up duties such as mowing greens, tees, fairways, and rough; cuts cups; maintains ball washers; replaces tee towels; cleans and fills divots
• Calibrates fertilizer/chemical application equipment; properly applies fertilizers/chemicals
• Reports any irregularities in turf quality to the superintendent or assistant superintendent
• Waters greens, tees and fairways
• Operates irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water
• Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed
• Assists the equipment manager with repair and maintenance off all golf course equipment
• Required to be in proper uniform as designated and be at a scheduled station at the scheduled time

• Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape maintenance work
• Ability to operate light motorized equipment
• Must be able to commit to hours of operation and understand that hours will fluctuate due to tournaments and special projects
• Position requires a highly professional demeanor with members, guests and staff, adaptability, flexibility and adherence to a strict level of confidentiality

Education/Experience:

• At least one year of golf course maintenance experience preferred

Certification and/or License Requirement:

• High school graduate, or GED
• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a two or four-year turfgrass management program
• Valid driver’s license

Skills:

• Requires ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
• Requires ability to stoop, bend, reach, lift and carry items up to 50lbs.
• Requires ability to safely operate equipment both mechanical and hand tools
• Requires ability to properly calibrate and apply fertilizers and pesticides
• Requires working in an outdoor environment with fluctuating temperatures
• Requires working in an outdoor environment with rugged, uneven terrain.
• Requires ability to visually observe the condition of surroundings
