Purpose

Oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and coordinates the preparation of financial statements and filings in compliance with GAAP.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Provide oversight and direction for multiple business processes or functions.
  • Provide guidance and support in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Company’s policies and procedures.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Lead general ledger accounting group, accounts payable and payroll functions.
  • Identify, research, and resolve corporate accounting, auditing, and operational issues.
  • Assist VP of Accounting and CFO with special projects related to acquisitions as well as process improvements for the financial operations of the company.

Do the Work

  • Hire, train, mentor, develop, and retain qualified and experienced personnel.
  • Manage and supervise accounting department team to include payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting groups.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statement close process.
  • Maintain accurate books and records in accordance with GAAP and ensure supporting documentation is readily available for review.
  • Work with external auditors during reviews and audits to manage accounting staff and compliance with all qualified requests in a timely manner.
  • Assist with financial audit preparation including quarterly reviews, annual financial statement audit, bank audits, 401(k) audit, FAR and other audits as required.
  • Research and apply technical accounting to ensure GAAP compliance for unique accounting transactions.
  • Identify, research, and resolve corporate accounting, auditing and operational issues.
  • Assist with the development, implementation of and monitoring adherence to company accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of internal controls and assist the VP Accounting in preparation for SOX 404b.
  • Manage accounting system security and access.
  • Lead project to implement multi-company module in company accounting system.
  • Complete other special projects as requested.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • CPA with a thorough knowledge of GAAP required.
  • Ten years or more (10+) of related experience required.
  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible management experience required.
  • Previous controllership experience preferred.
  • SEC reporting experience, including 10-K and 10-Q filings, preferred.
  • Expert level understanding of Microsoft Excel.
  • Industry experience in professional services, engineering, or consulting firm preferred.
  • Experience with Deltek Vision or other project costing Enterprise Resource Planning system required.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
